Savage F Class Action Warning

I just got my Savage F Class rifle. On the left side of the action there is a warning in big letters on the side that says " Warning : precision target trigger! point in a safe direction, load then close bolt with extreme care " this looks like it's etched in but the lettering looks dark. I was wondering if anyone else out there has seen this and has anyone tried to take the coloring off, leaving a natural colored finish ? The rifle comes stock with a 6 oz. trigger so they had good reason to put the warning on the side but it sticks out like a sore thumb and I'd like to lighten it up a little bit.

Your comment is interesting. A well known Savage gunsmith who post here told me he was not going to work on the Savage target actions because of this warning. He said Savage is admitting that there are problems with this action and the label is an inventation for a product liabiity law suit. I here folks talking all the time about removing this warning label. What if you decide to sell this action down the road after removing this product warning label? What is your obligation/liability in this sue happy world. Are you violating federal law, tampering with product warning label)by removing this label.

Its a PYA for Savage. Their production records can prove it left the factory with that warning in place. If you or anyone else would remove it, and then sell the gun, the next owner could sue all of you and collect in the event of an accidental shooting; but Savage would be off the hook. Prior to retirement, I investigated product liability claims and suits, many of them for Winchester.

I and several friends shoot the F and the FTR. There is no problem eith any of theese. When you buy a target trigger from jewell it comes with a warning label and it would only be prudent to pass it on to anyone you sell it to. To me it is no different than your antifreeze lable saying not for human consumption.

I don't think by putting a warning on the side of the action is indicative of problems with the action. The forums I've read say that if you chamber a round and close the action quickly the rifle sometimes won't fire when the trigger is pulled. It seems that this is because the trigger pull is so light, 6 oz. ) this trips the firing pin but does not fire because of the safety on the accutrigger. This kind of " bump " firing is possible on any trigger if adjusted that light. I think the warning is there so people don't go loading a round and then put their finger on the trigger because they think thats where it's supposed to be even though they might not be aiming and or ready to fire. I think we've all seen this happen at least once. I think it's just a reminder to follow safe gun handling procedures. As for the warning itself it does seem to be etched into the action and if I sold the gun it could colored in later.

When I did my research before buying my F/TR, all articles, info, savage web, etc., told of the TARGET TRIGGER warning, and warning on the rifle. Why is this such a surprise? It's a target rifle.

So...has anyone been able to remove the "Label"? I kinda think that it's just a bit of both legaleze, and an advertisment on Savage's part. Savage's other Accu-triggers are not as light, and it is a "selling point " to point that out in such a visable fashion. "My toy is better than your toy" thing. For a production piece, it shoot's better than most "drivers" can drive it,and it's a do-it-yourself hot rod. Sloppy bolt, sloppy boltface,un-trued,heathen that shoots 1 ragged hole every 5 round group at 100yd off a Harris...for $935.00 and a $85.00 BSA Cheap China Scope with $24.00 Fed Match ammo and a Walmart Protektor $20.00 sack of sand, on your fat belly full-a beer..

I removed it from my target action with 400 wet sand paper but used it dry,and if you sand with the machine marks it looks good but I buffed my action, bolt, nut, recoil lug and trigger guard to a mirror finish and I removed the accutrigger safety because i didn't like pulling it to the trigger,i have it set at 6 ozs,I also put a thin washer on the trigger pin between the trigger and housing to take up the slop and make the sear catch the same every time and i timed the action so the bolt lift is smooth and less effort and it makes the distance the sear has to travel less so when you close the bolt it only has to travel a fraction. Before I timed it it had to travel over a 1/4 inch and that causes the slam fires. My barrel and stock should be here this week it's gonna be a 6mm ai. Hope this helps
