Savage Extractor broke, I need a replacement

I have a Savage 6.5 PRC whose bolt face extractor broke off when cleaning the bolt head.
I know that those extractors are weak. Can you point me where to get a replacement or an improved Savage Extractor kit?

the gunshack in Texas has a bunch of savage parts, more things than I have seen at other places and they ship fast

Yep, I just recently ordered that whole kit.

Beryllium copper extractor broke ? Never broke one . Maybe Savage doesnt use them anymore, probably replaced with MIM parts

Gary, Jim and I both had those extractors on our LEB2 .308's. We purchased them together at the same time back in the day. Both had very quick wear issues and we bought replacements and it went away. Savage realized they had goofed up and changed the extractor material years ago.I keep a good stock of bolthead replacement parts on hand. This is primarily for when I screw a new barrel on the bolthead gets rebuilt, also just incase an issue arises like the OP I have them. The rifle goes back into service quickly.

So I am fairly new to Savage ownership. That said just like we all know the issues that Remington actions can have depending on what your using it for and cartridge choices this is likewise a well known issue with Savage actions.

Several companies make enhanced or better bolt heads or bolt head parts like "extractor/ejector upgrade kits". I have not had this issue but I am already looking into getting the parts to fix this before I have issues.

Always better to stay ahead of the curve on things that are common design issues. You see these same things in car and truck designs where an issue is well known, common and allowed to continue for decades in some cases! People always come up with a fix usually.

Remington's extractor is either loved or hated by everyone. Doing the Sako extractor mod can cause problems and solve problems. The ejector likewise can cause problems. So these things are not new. Wrong because the consumer always get's taken for a ride.

I think it would be foolish to replace it with factory OEM parts when we know that these parts are grossly inferior and not at all durable.

Bought a Rem 783...sold it again soon after...and lost 2 extractors during it's short time with me. Same as the Savage and will fit with a bit of fettling. Mind you, the trick is not losing the ball bearing and spring - refit inside a large plastic bag.

I have a half dozen Savages and a buddy has at least a dozen, he is a lefty. He got pretty heavy handed and ran some cartridges way over pressure and had to use a rawhide mallet to whack them open, along with a whack to get it to extract or break, he broke a few. I finally asked him if he got a clue yet.
I have run tens of thousands of rounds through mine with zero issues, other than dropping a case. I had some pressure issues due to temps a couple of years ago, that was quickly put up for another day but didn’t break anything.
