Savage expertise please

I've shot Savage PTA based rifles for many years, and trigger problems are common. Apart from what @Riesel says in the previous post, the most common cause of a failure to fire is the trigger pull weight setting. Set it too low and the inbuilt safety design stops the striker falling fully. Also, over extended periods of use, the pull-weight setting screw has a habit of loosening from recoil causing misfires, initially occasionally and usually quickly worsening to affect every shot.

With three PTAs with factory triggers in use together at one time, they had separate minimal reliable pull-weights which had to be borne in mind when setting / resetting them. The best worked fine at three-quarters lb pull (as claimed for the PTA model), the worst at ca. 1.25 lb on the trigger pull weight gauge. To avoid problems / retirements in matches, I learned to set the pull at 1/4lb above the minimum reliable setting for each particular action, and to recheck it regularly.

Oh ...... and a pierced ('blanked') or blown primer is often followed by this problem arising. Cleaning the trigger assembly and resetting the pull weight adjuster usually cures the condition.

I would take the bolt apart and double check that there is no debris in the spring or in the inside of the bolt body. I have seen more than once where someone has pierced a primer by shooting a small primer brass in a sloppy savage bolt and the pierced portion of the primer is inside the bolt causing an intermittent bind.

When you get it fixed call Lance at Triggershims.com
shim out the side play in that wobbly Accutrigger--it will help a Ton!
A little clear nail polish or Loctite after you get the unit adjusted like you want--I had mine back out and cost me a withdrawal from match last week--UGH! I knew better but had been working on it and did not "glue" it when done
The shims make an Accutrigger work soooo much better and they are Cheap!
Good Luck
