Savage Customer Service

Bugs

Bought a RBLP precision varminter in .223 and had problems from the start. Barrel was extremely rough and uneven, would not break in, was a terrible fouler and refused to shoot much under an inch after trying many combinations. Called Savage customer service and was told to write a letter explaining the barrel problem and return the rifle. Was told that turnaround time was 2-3 weeks. After about a week and a half, I got a phone call from a very nice customer service lady who informed me that a new barrel was being installed and I would have the rifle back shortly. Actually had the rifle back in a bit over two weeks with a new barrel which is very smooth, broke in nicely, is easy to clean, doesn't foul badly at all and the rifle shoots much, much better. Hats off to Savage for pretty good customer service.

Bugs:

There is nothing better than a pat on the back. The employees at Savage are a good bunch of hard working folks. They hear a lot of negative and little positive. You might write a letter to either Ron Colburn or Joe Degrande at Savage and let them know your story with a good ending. They want to make a good product and provide good service. I too have had good service from Savage they are a quality company to deal with and it is showing in their popularity and sales.

Bugs - that's good to hear. Pretty much every gun maker is going to have a lemon slip through now and again, what's real important is what they do about it afterwards. I'm impressed that they got it squared away and back to you so quickly.

Thanks for letting us know! Guy

I also had the same experience w/ Savage in 2000, after I bought a new Model 10 FP, .223. The original barrel loaded up w/ copper after 20 rounds, and the bore looked like a Nickelson file. Shipped it back, and 3 weeks later it was returned. Also had a call-back from Joe LaGrande, who apoligized & said it should have never left the factory in that condition. They gave the bonus of a short throat, and a very clean 3# trigger, this was prior to the Accutrigger). I later sent them copies of 200 yd. tgts. w/ 10 & 20 shot groups averaging around 1 1/2", and a letter from Ron Coburn followed. Savage is a great company, in this age of "new junk".

I ordered and purchased a Savage Model 12 VLP in 223 Remington from a local gun shop. After I got it home I decided I didn't like some of the machining on the receiver so I sent it back to the factory for work. The Savage Quality Assurance Office had the rifle worked on, but didn't care for the results of that effort. They sent me a new rifle !!! All this happened in a few weeks. They're a good customer oriented company.

I took my Savage VLP .223 to the range for the first time to shoot some groups and break-in the barrel. Using a randomly selected handload and cleaning after each 3 shot group, I was pleasantly surprised to have all groups ranging from 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Not bad considering I'm not used to the 1 pound, from the factory) accutrigger, terrible mirage,98 degrees) and the rifle is unbedded, that will change this weekend). I'm certain I will find load that will shoot well under 1/2 inch. For 625 bucks, I'm pretty happy.

Think Effie Sullivan is one of the main folks in Savage customer service and their custom shop.

Have had very good dealings with them.

They've made me a few custom guns that were a little unusual to say the least, and Effie walked them through the whole process in good order.

I have had dealings with the custom shops at Remington, Winchester, Colt, Weatherby, and a few others. My dealings with Savage have been the best.
