Savage Bolt Action rifles misfiring?

Has any one had problems with Savage Bolt Action rifles misfiring. Specifically when a cartridge is tight in the chamber or the bullet is against or into the lands?

its not misfiring, that's Savage Accutriger safety mechanism, you trigger pull could be set to low, you need to adjust trigger pull spring by one full turn hopefully it should fix what you experiencing, otherwise turn it one more time. Another fix is to get aftermarket trigger, because that trigger pull spring has tendency to become loose...

Is this factory ammo or handloads.Sometimes when we full length size we create a headspace problem and if the firing pin is minimum length,it could hit the primer to light. If it is the accutrigger, you are supposed to pull the blade straight back, not on an angle. If you pull off center it will trip the pin and the blade catches it,which is the safety feature of the trigger. If you pull straight back with good form and stopp at the sear engagement and then do your final squeeze,it should fire every time.I have 3 accutriggers and I did it myself knowing how to and my bad habits haunted me for short order. If you are hunting with it,leave it at 3#'s at least for adrenalines sake. If I can help further, feel free to ask.

Thanks guy's, I need to add some weight to th trigger pull. I guess I go to excited about making the Accurtrigger work like a Jewle or Timmny. Head spacings fine. Had the problem with both factory and hand loads.

I gave up on the Accutriggers. Replaced them with RifleBasix Sav 2 & never looked back. Still not a Jewell, but very close.

I have 2 friends that have sent two separate rifles back to Savage for "slam fires" that Savage said was impossible. Rifles would go off when the bolt was being closed.

Started out by not going off at all, then quickly progressed to where the rifle would discharge as described in previous sentence.

Also, was at a match a while back where 3 different shooters squeezed the trigger on their Savages and nothing happened.

That being said, it is pretty obvious that there are some issues with the firing mechanism/process in them. I guess be aware and be careful. WD

I'm not that an expert but some day Savage is going to get in big trouble. Unlike most turn bolt systems (Mauser, Remington, Winchester, etc... ) the firing pin cams off the back of the action. Savage firing firing pins (110 action) cam off the bottom of the bolt body. The traditional camming action of the Mauser leaves the firing pin ( thus the firing pin sear) free of the bolt. With the the Savage system the firing pin is integral with the bolt.

I actually know exactly what is going on with my rifle. I was just fishing for more explanations. The problem is that (very infrequently) you will get a firing pin assembly less then perfect. Then when you chamber a tight round. Typically a hand loaded, target round that is of greater quality than factory match ammo the firing pin sear will bind with the trigger sear. When the trigger is pulled the friction of the two sears holds back the firing pin. When it dose let go it just barely impacts the primer. Hence, a misfire.

Slam fires are caused by the same bind. Fortunately, I have never experience such an even.

The floating bolt face is a great design. It took the turn bolt, push feed actions to a new level. Why in gods name they had to change the camming action from the back of the action to the bolt body we may never know. :o
