Put an Axis in a real stock, and even the factory barrels will make you smile, just expect it to perform great every time in a Tupperware stock with a shoe horn for a recoil lug. There is absolutely nothing wrong with an Axis, and they will be hard to beat fer the money, and can be fantastic with a little love.

Your spot on, but even the factory barrel off the 243 that we just reamed to 6mm AI proved to shoot. I'm sure if I had shot the 243 chamber before opening it up to 6MM AI it would have been a 1/4 MOA barrel with good handloads in the new Varmint stock. This was with ammo that was loaded 20 years ago for another rifle, I'm scared to see how well this factory barrel would shoot if I worked up a load for it!I was following one person making his second varmint/bench rest rifle with an Axis action.
He's getting his stuff from Sharp Shooters Supply.
His is done in 6mm Rem AI.
That's all i'm going to say at the moment....
If I had aimed center of the target after moving the adjusting the scope up for corection, I would have hit right where I held for the aiming point at 200 with that 3rd shot, I forgot I hadn't changed the windage , but does shoot 1/4 MOA at least to 200 yards!
Give it some more time.I already feel better about how my shop looks!

The Axis and the Savage model 10,11,12 and so on are all built in the same factory using the same barrels, so why would you think the results on target would be different?
Not so long ago you could buy a model 12FV for the same money, replace the cheap stock and have an exceptional shooter.

A lot more calibers to choose from with the Axis, no 6mm options or long action hunting calibers available, just aint impressed with the calibers offered in the FV. plus I think the Axis is a bit stiffer action, both being repeaters.

But it's an aftermarket from Sharp Shooter Supply.

The one pictured isn't, but this one has the same treatment as your, with 100% of the work done by Sharp Shooter Supply, Fred is the Savage authority!! And it is a shooter!
Can't get past the terrible trigger. Or the ugliness. By the time you change out the things most change, you could have just bought a Tikka to begin with. Flame suit on!
Perfect, they are not. And the action won't be as smooth as the Tikka. By a long shot!

I would not build a rifle on Tikka, but I will a Savage or a Remington,, anything else in my opinion is a waste and would only consider a custom action over them!
After decades one reason I switched to using the Savage is the end results are better! I'm talking apples to apples the same price point Tikka or Sako aint beating the Savage in competition! I learned a decade ago, if I wanted to win in factory class, I had one option, buy a Savage! No other maker was or is able to produce the out of box results from a factory stock rifle on the target, that is proven!
If you want to compete in custom class, the custom actions have an advantage, but Tikka Remington, Ruger or anyone else has no advantage over using the Savage but those others will cost you more, and they still won't be a custom Batt, or Kelbly variation.
One other thing that after that made me change and that is, I want to see you change barrels and set your headspace in 5 minutes off yer tailgate with a spanner wrench and a brass machinist hammer and shoot the same hole at 100 yards.
Sorry, but I'll take ease of use, accuracy and dependability over a little smoother and imported rifle any day, and save some money doing it!! But I'm just a shooter,,,, and to me the results at the target paper or organic, is what matters the most! Probably why we don't see many Tikkas customized, or winning in competition, can't say that about savage,, in any model!
