Savage axis help

The complete rifle didn't have great PE originally and the lug abutments were cut and the bolt lugs only then needed some lapping. I'm going to lean towards shortening the bolt bolt. I no it's an axis (cheap rifle) but I personally feel like if the weak PE can be fixed then it becomes a very affordable but great action to build on if your so inclined such as I am. One way Savage saves $$ is less machining on this action which I feel makes it a stronger action. The 110 and rem 700 have the whole top bridge machined away. The axis dare I say is a poor man's target action

If you shorten the total lockup distance than cutting the lugs just makes the bolt length needed to be shortened the same amount . At least it can be done on the savage bolt design. Dont try to deepen the bolt handle recess , they are too hard
