Savage Axis Firing Pin Problem

I'm having the same issue with my Savage Axis II (.223) as my ftf is ~3 in 10 now (and getting worse). Did this solve your issue?

Not entirely still getting some that fail to fire on my reloads...(crushed primers?)
Had 2 commercial loads that failed to fire I found that the shoulder was bumped back about .020" on those rounds. Tore those down replaced the primers with some CCI 400s loaded em back up and they worked just fine on the next trip.
Lessons learned
1.) keep the head space on your rounds with in .002"-.006".
2.) commercial rounds may have excessive head space.
3.) lighter non-magnum primers work better in the axis rifle.
4.) don't crush your primers when seating them.

Next steps is to replace the springs the Gun Shack has them https://www.gunshack.com/savage-parts?product_id=3421
For the most part I am satisfied with my cobbled together fix... My axis is a target rifle only so if a round fails to fire it's not a real big deal just lost time and a missing data point.

Thanks for the quick reply — much appreciated.

I am going to order the springs. Seems like an easy thing to fix, and since my ftf is getting more frequent, I'm thinking the spring is getting weaker.

Mine is also just a target rifle, but it's a real PITA to set up the shot... hold my breath... and then CLICK. :)

Checked Savage Shooters Forum for All kinds of Savage knowledge. Its a common thing with Savage rifles sadly. My Axis II Precision was having a problem when I swapped a trigger assy but oddly putting the OEM accutrigger back in the thing works great. No Savage won't ell us parts, but the Gun Shack will, See the afore mentioned forum.
That was after trying all the known issue causes. I have trigger sitting in drawer now that was nice until it was not.
Rifle goes bang every time with confidence and shoots small groups with Lapua SRP and 140 eldm using H4350.
Glass you got it running again.
