Savage Axis 243

I would absolutely NOT modify factory ammo to see if that will "fix" it! Something is out of spec, either the rifle or the ammo. Take Savage up on their offer to send it back and get it fixed properly.
Also good advice above to check the ammo and see if in spec.
Definitely will

My savage 308 won't chamber the cheap federal blue box ammo, chambers the other half dozen kinds of factory ammo i tried just fine.

something aint right! longitudinal scrapes. Need to check those cases in a haedspace gauge before going thru hassle of send ing the rifle back. Either the chamber is too tight or the ammo is too fat!

I have a new Axis 243. When loaded and chambered with a live round, the bolt will only close to the 2 o’clock position. Empty, the bolt functions correctly. I sent it to Savage for warranty repair. When I received the rifle back, it still would not function properly when a live round is chambered.
Savage told me that I need to use Federal Nosler ballistic ammo instead of my Winchester ammo. Or, send the rifle back so they could adjust the bolt action to match my Winchester ammo.
Just looking for feedback as this makes no sense at all
Wow' that is weird. It should work with whatever you feed it. Something is way out of whack.

Yes, something is not right, the ammo or the rifle...both?
I'd try the exact factory ammo Savage says to use, plus a few others...to see if Savage isn't full of it...
Then if the recommended ammo chambers and all the rest does too...you know where the problem is... If the Savage recommend ammo doesn't allow the bolt to close...you know that too..and can communicate that to them,....When you send the rifle back...along with the sample of the factory ammo you tried that did not allow the bolt to close...labeled and separate little container inside the box...with the bolt removed of coarse...just like when you first opened the box. Savage should help you with this problem, along with an explanation, as to what they found.

Got an Axis in 6.5CM last month and the chamber left the brass with those longitudinal scratches also. The chamber was so bad that not only would it barely chamber a round extraction was like pulling the bolt back over 80 grit sandpaper. Your barrel and mine should never have left the factory! Send it back to Savage!
