About the only difference is the "hump" in the barrel and I believe a barrel band on the Savage/Anschutz. I think they both went away when Savage was no longer the importer, and they became known as the 1422D. Fine rifles and better than the new ones in my opinion.Very true. I have a Savage Anshutz 54 Sporter as well and it's the same rifle as any 54 actioned sporter rifle of it's time other than having the importer name "Savage" on it. My father purchased it new in the 70's and it still shoots on par with the 1710 I had. I actually prefer the older 54 trigger because it has an overtravel stop unlike the newer 54 triggers.
