Savage-Anshultz?

Very true. I have a Savage Anshutz 54 Sporter as well and it's the same rifle as any 54 actioned sporter rifle of it's time other than having the importer name "Savage" on it. My father purchased it new in the 70's and it still shoots on par with the 1710 I had. I actually prefer the older 54 trigger because it has an overtravel stop unlike the newer 54 triggers.

About the only difference is the "hump" in the barrel and I believe a barrel band on the Savage/Anschutz. I think they both went away when Savage was no longer the importer, and they became known as the 1422D. Fine rifles and better than the new ones in my opinion.

Ok, IIRC the marking was Savage-Anschutz Mark 12? It did have the dovetail across the front and back of the receiver. Beautiful rifle with walnut stock and bull barrel. The stock has a metal insert with a slot in it underneath the fore-end too.

You lost me on the "hump" and a barrel band, unless I'm not understanding you. Mine doesn't have either.

Is that a Savage/Anschutz? IRRC the one my FIL had was a pretty early one and it had a barrel band and/or a hump in the barrel between the band and the action. I'm going to have to get a hold of the brother-in-law and find out for sure. My 1422 looks just like the rifle in the picture.

The earlier Anschutz 1420 and 1422 models had a barrel band for the rear sight. By the mid-seventies, if not earlier, the rear sight had no barrel band. Savage-Anschutz 54 sporters were the same as the Anschutz models, except for the stamping "Savage Anschutz".

Yes, that's the Savage Anschutz that my father purchased new in the 70's that I was talking about.
