Savage actions

I am in the process of building a new rifle in 6 mm XC, 8,5 twist Bartlein barrel, heavy varmint profile.
This rifle will be used for competitions simulating hunting conditions. My original idea was to use a single shot action, but some of the disciplines requires us to shoot 5 shots during 45 seconds from the of-hand position, most of the events require 5 shots in 90 seconds). A magazine would therefore be beneficial.
I am interested in the Savage action with a detachable box magazine. Their site does not have a lot of info, and they state that they do not respond to e-mails.
does anyone have an idea of the accuracy of these actions and maybe some pictures of the action in question?
Does one need the action opened up for feeding and ejection, or do they supply the action with the small ejection port and detachable box magazine which will make the action stiffer and more accurate?

Regards

Andre

I was told that when an action has a DBM, it weakens the action and could sequentially affect accuracy. I asked the same question you are as I am currently having a 6br built up. I deciced to use a single shot action for rigidity, even though I also would have preferred a DBM. I can't yet speak from experience, and will be curious what others have to say.

Ask that question here http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php You will most likely get the answer you need. John

I have both a 6XC and 6BR built on Savage s/shot actions using Pac Nor bbl's...XC w/8 twist & the BR w/12 twist..these are the older 12 s/shot actions w/SSS triggers....both are very accurate to say the least....the XC uses the nut...the BR does not.....both heavy bbl's...the XC is 27' x 1.055' no taper while the BR is 26' x 1.230' w/no taper...I am currently building a new Savage 12 w/DBM in a Low Profile in 7-08 AI 26' w/straight taper to one inch @ muzzle...9 twist 3 groove...which action is stronger ? Of course the s/shot solid bottom would/should be...a very good bbl on a Savage repeater action with good loads/glass/shooter & assembled well will be scary accurate...call Fred Moreo @ Sharpshooter Supply in Delphos Ohio
