Savage 308 Barrel

Where would I find information on the price I should ask for a Savage barrel that I took off of my Savage 10FP in .308. I rebarreled to a 6Dasher and don't need it any more so I thought I could get a little of my money back by selling it. Any Ideas?

There's no book or way to determine its worth. Usually used barrels go from 100-200 depending on what u have. Stainless, fluting and threading all help but u have to keep in mind u can get quality pr we fits for 250..

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I personnally would not buy a used barrel without first inspecting the condition of the bore with my Hawkeye borescope. If it is close to new with obviousely very few rounds fired, then I would pay a higher price for it.

I've seen too many used barrels described "as new", or "only fired a couple of box's of ammo", and when I look inside, they look like a sewar pipe, completely worthless.

This is a classic example of "buyer beware".

I know that the info about the barrel is only as good as the sellers honesty about the barrel use. I can tell you that the barrel is in very good shape with only 267 rounds fired. I have the log that I kept since the barrel was new. My intentions were to shoot this barrel until worn out but after getting to 900 yards my bullet started going subsonic and tumble so 1000 yards was out of the question. I live at sea level so that didn't help. I did have a 4" group at 900 yards. That was using varget powder and a matchking 168 gr bullet. I know that I could change to a heavier bullet and get up to 1000 or maybe 1100 but I didn't want to go that route. I just decided to change the barrel and go with the 6Dasher which is good out to 1300 yards without any problems. For the break-in I did a shoot and clean for the first 20 rounds and then it got cleaned about every 20 rounds. I wouldn't know what to look for in the barrel as I am pretty new to long range shooting and have only had the gun that I bought new less than a year. So I can't really say what the inside of the barrel looks like but I would assume it looks good. All that being said I do understand not wanting to buy a barrel that hasn't been checked out.

I am also looking for a scope that works perfectly. I don't care what it looks like but it must track like new and have a lifetime warranty. I can throw in a little money with the barrel but have limited funds.

Thats what I'm trying to find out. What is a good price to try and sell the barrel for. I don't have a clue what the market is for a used barrel.

ctimgo: Pick a price you would be happy with, while asking yourself if you would buy that barrel for that price. Post an ad and if no response in a week or so, lower the price. Try again, no response, another price drop. Eventually ( or with your first price posted) someone will respond, and that will be the value of the barrel.

Doesn't hurt to look over the other ads for used barrels and use some of those prices as a guide.

A big selling point would be for the buyer to have return ability if not satisfied, as long as the barrel has not been altered or damaged, of course.
