Savage .284 question

I'm considering building a long range hunting/tactical rifle in .284 Win. using a Savage action. My question is do I need a long action or will a short action work. From the research I've done, it's difficult to tell for sure what length is necessary. I plan to use 162 gr bullets, probably Hornady A-max. and a 26 inch barrel. Thanks.

You will need a long action to get the full potential of the 284.
For 162 Amax, .220 freebore works great.

Yes both will work however if you want to maximize your powder capacity with the long bullets AND magazine feed you will need a long action. If you single load and maybe even have to remove the bolt to remove a loaded round, not sure on this one, either will work.
Try posting here if you don't get an answer on the bolt removal thing-
