Savage 110 worth it?

Mine would be. Have a 110 in .223 that I like very much. It`s a hunting rifle with a thin barrel, so it would need a heavier barrel for longer range shooting. A better stock might be good too, but the action itself is fine.
Yes sure have. Savage 110 are so easy to build into whatever. Easy to change to the bolt face and super easy to change barrels and set head space. I have a 223 that's been a 6br,22-250 and now it's a 22 nosler.
They are pretty easy to get shooting pretty good. Some guys dont like the feel (higher effort) to run the bolt, personally I like the several I have, they are some of my favorite hunting rifles. They are very easy to get shooting “very good, for a hunting rifle” barrels are easy to find/ order and change. Stock and trigger options are more sparse than a rem or clone but you can usually find what you are looking for.
A longer barrel will produce more speed, that is a fact, a heavier barrel will be able to handle rapid fire and heat better than a pencil barrel, it has more mass, that is a fact. But there is nothing that makes a 1000yd shot with light barrel impossible or even unwise. Match barrels come in all contours from the barrel makers, they don't save the bad ones to make skinny barrels. If you have a skinny barrel and want to shoot 1000yds with it just mind the heat, and don't let it get too hot. How does the barrel know how far away the target is??? The parking lot at Manatee is a pretty good walk to the line, I am thinking a light barrel might be in order now that I am gettin older.

Since it’s an older 110 in a 243, what is the action screw spacing measurement?
Savage used to make a few different length actions.
-At one time they put all calibers in a true long action that measured 5.0”.
-Could’ve also been an early model “intermediate” action that measures 4.522”
-If it’s a short action it will measure either 4.275” or 4.400”.
So pretty much 4 different action lengths it could be. All are worthy of working with, however if it is the 4.522 action you would be limited on stock options. You’d pretty much need to special order one from SSS or Stockade Gunstocks as nobody else inlets for them. I think Boyd’s might do it still, or might have some leftover ones in their clearance section of their website.
Just something to think about, and a must to determine the screw spacing before ordering a stock.

I've seen local guys win matches (short range benchrest, 600 yard F Class) using Stevens 200 actions.

a Jard trigger will run at 8oz in mine, if you don't want to spend a lot of money the Sav is fun to shoot and with a good barrel they will shoot some of those billfold groups, I have the Palma Action and have had some good barrels that have shot in the .1's not all the time but when I'm not OL Shaky relaxed....have fun

Havn't seen a single "bolt lift kit" that would even come close to my Remington XP 100 bolt lift.
You don't see a Savage rifle listed on THE LIST but, that doesn't keep them from being LOTS of fun to work/play with.
I've lost count but I think I have 5 now? I'd have to go look.
Every one will shoot bug holes. All set up as single shots or factory single shot actions. I DON'T chase brass.
Only one is NOT set up as a bench gun and it's chambered in 6.8 SPC with a Richard's Micro-Fit Wildcat stock. All the rest have fence post stocks. Think 15 + pound stocks. All deadly accurate.
Thin barrels are fine as long as you don't heat them up. First couple of rounds should get you what you want. Let your targets tell if your barrel is accurate or not. Stay away from the bore scopes. THEY LIE!!
A 5 shot group at maybe 1/2" and the bore scope says your barrel is junk???
My chamberings run from 20 VT, a 20 VT "short" wildcat, .221 Fireball, .223, 20 BR, 22 BR, 6 BR, 6.8 BR Wildcat, 6.8 SPC, .308 and a couple I've probably missed.
The latest is my 20 MGM wildcat. (22 TCM necked down to 20). Not much action yet but the potential is there.

So I understand the rifle stock configuration would shoot just fine and it does. I have plenty of rifles dedicated to hunting that I prefer way more. I just looking to start shooting longer ranges and I was thinking of doing it with my 270wsm but Even with a heavy barrel you are sitting and waiting for it to cool down after 3 shots things a flame thrower. I want something I can set down on the bench and know at 500yrds it's gonna be consistent and fun to shoot. 243 maybe not even what I want either. I've kinda been eyeing the 22 creedmore and I don't even know if I can rechamber to that. All new to all of this.
I got 4.3875 center to center and my bad it is a savage 10 so that would be short action
