Savages must work pretty well because I sell a boat load of barrels for them and people send me lots of tiny groups.
Cool. So it’s a 4.4” centerfeed action. Which currently is the most common and has the most available stock options! That’s your best scenario.I got 4.3875 center to center and my bad it is a savage 10 so that would be short action
Most people, shooting 1K, shoot more than 3 shot strings.A longer barrel will produce more speed, that is a fact, a heavier barrel will be able to handle rapid fire and heat better than a pencil barrel, it has more mass, that is a fact. But there is nothing that makes a 1000yd shot with light barrel impossible or even unwise. Match barrels come in all contours from the barrel makers, they don't save the bad ones to make skinny barrels. If you have a skinny barrel and want to shoot 1000yds with it just mind the heat, and don't let it get too hot. How does the barrel know how far away the target is??? The parking lot at Manatee is a pretty good walk to the line, I am thinking a light barrel might be in order now that I am gettin older.

spudgun, you got it going on with that thing! Nice build. My Wilson barrels from Urbanrifleman shoot very well. I like the AT One stock for a Laminate. My last build was on a Savage. Found a beat up .308 win. Bought the gun for a song and put a Wilson barrel in 6mm Creedmoor. Replaced the trigger with a Timney trigger and Boyds AT-one stock, bedded and pillared, Topped it off with a Vortex GE
Below is my gun and 1000 yd target. You didn't mention what caliber you wanted to end up with but Savage's are easy and cheap to build up.
You can get very good results with them.
Shot 1000 yard vbr with one a barreled 243 ackleyI've had a savage 110 in 243 for about 17yrs now and maybe have only shot it 100x has anyone ever tried making a long range gun with one? Thinking new barrel and stock are the actions even worth doing that with?
That's a sweet setup. And I mentioned I'm not sure it's possible but I wouldn't mind trying the 22 creedmoor out.My last build was on a Savage. Found a beat up .308 win.
