SARTORIUS GD-503 SCALE USERS

After reading all the positive posts on the GD-503, I took the plunge and bought one. Per the manual, I turned it on for a full 24 hours before using. I placed the 100G calibration weight on the pan and it read 1543.235 GN...perfect. I did some testing and all charges weighed were +/- a kernel of H4350. I turned it off for a day, and per the manual, the next time I turned it on for 30 minutes to warm up before using again. I placed the calibration weight on the pan, and much to my surprise, I got a reading of 1543.215. I did this check over 20 times and never got the 1543.235 reading...all were between 1543.215 and 1543.185. Has any user run into this calibration problem with your scale. For 1K, this scale should be dead on EVERY TIME. If you can't calibrate it, you can't get load accurate ammo.

Paul- I've had my scale since 10/11 and always get the 1543.235. I let it warm up for a few hours before calibrating it just before using. I just got finished up loading some cases a few minutes ago.

If this persists, give Gary a call.

I let mine warm up for about an hour and a half and i never had a problem I love that scale.I am not saying that it Is a must for all to have but if you want to take one less variable out of the equation for long range shooting that is what it will do. I got my es to 4 for a five shot string.Great scale and worth the money

Paul,
I'm sure you probably have since you are following the instruction manual. I only ask because you didn't mention it in your post. When you turn your scale back on and wait the 30min for it to warm up are you hold the Tare button for 2sec then placing the calibration weight on it and waiting for it to beep? I'm assuming that you are since you are using the manual but like I said I thought I would just ask since you didn't mention it in your post.

If you got your GD503 from balances.com?? I would give them a call. They seem to be very knowledgeable about the GD503.

Edit: I have not had any problems out of mine, but only had it for 3 days and it has not been cut off since pulgging it up! This scale'S ablitly to weigh as close as it does. Problaby isn't needed, but WOW what a peace of mind to know you can weigh that close! Great Scale! The only way you can weigh closer is if you start cutting single kernels. NO I'M NOT THAT NUTS!!!!! ;D ;D

Deadlyswift,

You hit the nail on the head. The first time I calibrated the scale, the seller walked me through the procedure but I obviously failed to write it down correctly. I WAS NOT holding the TARE KEY down until +100.0000 appeared in the display, I pressed the TARE KEY to zero the scale only, then put the 100 gram weight on the pan. Doing it the correct way 10 times, I got 1543.230-1543.235-1543.240...all are equal to 100.000 grams on the conversion charts. On either end of this range, ie, 1543.245 (High) and 1543.225 (Low), the 100.000 grams changes to 100.001 and 99.999 grams....the ranges seem to go in groups of three.

To all responders, thank you for all your help. As happens most often, OPERATOR ERROR was the problem.

Call me a cave man, but I've never calibrated my GD-503. I use check weights to make sure the scale is reading correctly. It always reads the same numbers, so I never bothered learning how to calibrate the scale. Love the scale! :)

I ordered mine from balances.com and asked them to set the unit for grains. Don't know if they calibrated the unit when they changed the setting, but mine was right on and has ZERO drift. I too did the 24 hour warmup. for the unit.

I think it is safe to say that I have purchased my last scale!! ;)

I still hope you guys are happy with your scales... This scale looks awesome...

I just watched the video on you tube of the GD503 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=zxMzbAt4bj0) after following a link on a review by accurate shooter.com... In the video they say they have it for about $900.00, but when I visit the site it's $1300... Does this sound right...?

It was $899 a year ago. I believe the price went up soon after the first of January. Perhaps considerably.

I love mine. I weigh powder, brass, bullets and jacket lube when I make bullets.

In addition to the above comments, I would also would mention that I verify the scale is still level and check the bubble.

If you can't get a GD 503 invest in a A&D FX 120i for half the money ……. magnetic force registration also ………. jim
