San Gabriel BR School April 09 2006

San Gabriel Valley Benchrest Shooters just finished it's 2nd BR School April 9 2006. Our 1st school was August 8 2004. I'm wondering if anybody knows of any more schools coming up. I am already aware the IBS puts on an IBS BR School, nice school. And Tony Boyer gives individual instruction. I would like to know of any other BR Schools in the near future.
San Gabriel is a small BR program averaging 25-30 shooters per shoot. We have a 12 shoot schedule of NBRSA/IBS Shoots. We have two 4 Gun shoots each year, two HV Championship, a SP Championship, an UNL Championship, a Merchandise Shoot, and even a Club Shoot in December.
But the jewell of our Schedule this year is our BR School. Since I am the Shoot Director at San Gabriel I know first hand the planning involved in a BR School. I recommend a BR School to any range for the BR community they serve. Like I said we have done this twice and it was well received both times. We are in So Cal 15 miles east of Pasadena in the San Gabriel foothills above Irwindale. We have had people travel from No Cal, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Indiana to our BR Schools. The gentleman from Indiana was Perry Morton member of the Hall of Fame. It is a tremendous amount of work planning a BR School. The first one I spent a year on it. The second one I spent 6 months. The 2006 BR School was the scary one. Gene my partner in both schools and I watched weather reports for 2 weeks prior to the BR School. Everyday it seemed like it changed between clear sky's to rain. Finally the weather report settled down to clear on Sunday the day of the school and rain on Monday. The weather man was right we had a perfect clear day on Sunday and rain on Monday.
The BR School 2 weeks ago this Sunday was great. We had about 40 Students, 16 Instructors, and 10 or so visitors maybe 20 visitors. We had a lot of well known shooters as our Instructors. Walt Berger, John Loh, Lawrence Weisdorn, Danny Moscaritolo, Tom Libby, Gary Sinclair, Mike Marcelli, Gene DeLoney, Mike Sosenko, Don Nielson, Dennis Thornberry, Lou Murdica, Dave Blazzard, Stephen Perry. Also we had our Range crew instructing but you wouldn't know these guys. I don't want to take the steam out of what Paul will report later on the San Gabriel BR School so I'll stop.
What I'm saying is encourage the range you shoot at to have a BR School. If done right it can be a moneymaker for the Club and give a struggling Club a shot in the arm. As always I am open to discussion. Pictures to follow.

Thanks Steve,

The school was great. I learned a lot and met some great people. And just to show you precision shooting is not just about pudgy, old guys with gray hair, like me), here's an eighth-grader who shot one of the small groups for the day, a 0.165" if I recall.

Is the future of BR a pink-stocked Panda?

Shooters
I'm bringing back this San Gabriel BR School Thread to help announce BR3. When the San Gabriel Group moves to it's new BR Range some time this Summer to become the Angeles Benchrest Shooters Association we will finish 2007 and have a 12 month Schedule for 2008.. I have already written the Schedule for what's left of 2007 and a full schedule for 2008. The BR World will be aware of the Angeles Schedules when they are approved.
Keeping in sequence with our 2004 and 2006 BR schools Angeles BR Range will be having a 2008 2 day BR School, same quality as before an extra day to coach shooting at 100 & 200. The BR School dates will be Aug 9 & 10, 200 yd shooting will added, we have several 200 yd Regional & State Champion 200 yd coaches who will attend, and several HOF Shooters also Eric Stecker of Berger Bullets hopefully. Should get Bruno and Berger again.
To see what BR2 looked like go to Article Archives in 6mmBR. Look under the Article Archives for Benchrest School-San Gabriel's Training Program.
I will have several memos out announcing the BR school and the format as I done for our other schools. This will be better than buying 2000 primers and you will probably learn what you need to advance your shooting career. I guarantee it.
