Sako Riihimaki 222

I'm not a heavy bullet for caliber shooter so a slower twist isn't a problem for me. I have always had the thought if I want a heavier bullet get a bigger gun. That's just me! If it shoots light bullets best, so be it. I'm OK with that.

:):):):) Buy a 45/70 Ruger #1 and load some 450s. It’s a good truck gun.

I bought a Redfield straight 10x to put on it but even though I was told it was reconditioned, apparently it wasn't. Bullets went everywhere and I couldn't get it to settle down. I took it back and traded it for a "reconditioned" Redfield 4x12. First results weren't stellar with it either but I plan to try again with it. My problem is modern scopes have to large of eye piece and the bolt will hit it. So trying to keep it some what vintage and a small eye piece is a little bit of a hassle. These were purchase from a company in Tulsa that reconditions older Redfield, Weaver and other older scopes. Not impressed with their work yet.

Got dies and brass. Just need to get this scope problem solved.

Ah! Give that up and put higher rings on it. Sounds like looking vintage is more trouble than it’s worth.

I find that the Leupold varix 2 6-18 with turrets and a plex fits nicely on older rigs and isn't too out of place. It isn't really long, is usually matte and comes in plex or CDC crosshair. I use it on several Sporters and varmint guns. Especially the 222 class and smaller guns. I buy mine used, because I am patient and can wait. It is a fine scope, often overlooked. Fwiw I found that in a stiff crosswinds of @ 15 mph, if you turn down to 10x, and shoot 50 grain TNT at 3100 from a 222, at 100, 200 and 300 you can hold into the wind using the heavy point of the plex as aim point and it's right there for PD shooting. No fancy plex Christmas tree needed.
