Sako L461 extractor

Its been a while since I've had my hands on the L461------but----I think the
tip of the extractor portrudes past the bolt nose. This is definitely the case with the
L46's I have.

I'm a bit nervous about using a printed tenon length and think the distance
from the bolt face to the extractor tip should be measured.

The tenon length should be this measurement plus whatever clearance you feel
comfortable with.

Just one man's opinion.

A. Weldy

All the L461's I've done I cut the tenon .005-.010" short of the extractor. You can shorten the extractor nose slightly and reshape it to get the tenon a little closer to the bolt nose.

My solution has always been to look at the action im installing a barrel on not blindly go by a book. Back when i did the one sako ill ever do it sure didnt match up to any printed material i could find at the time.

Butch,
They must not all be .845". The one sitting in front of me is .865"×16tpi with a tenon length of .795". William Hambly Clark's book shows .864x16tpi with a tenon length of .785"

Sean, I can't speak for yours. It ain't .590. I'm like you, I measure the old barrel and also from the front ring to the front of the lug on the bolt installed in the receiver and allow for any extractor clearance.. The Frank Haas book shows the dimensions that I quoted from the Trinidad Jr. College's gunsmithing booklet that they give the gunsmiths. I will double checK my Hambly Clark book. It is great book.

My concern was with the thread pitch and whether it was metric. Didn't want to get into it if it was metric. The 16 TPI turned out to be correct. Once off, certainly easy to measure thread OD and determine tenon length. Receiver face to bolt front on this action (ser.108000 range) was .855 and .785 to tip of extractor. Looks like the drawing for the L-46 in an old NRA gunsmithing guide was also correct for this particular L-461. It also shows a clearance cut for the extractor.

Well, was hoping you'd do some soul searching and maybe change your ways. If you'll search your posts on other people's threads, you'll see that about half the time you belittle or disparage others posts or simply find a way to be downright disagreeable. Maybe a good course in anger management would help or go down to the nearest bar and try your tactics out on the biggest guy there (they do have bars like that anymore, don't they?). If you're simply onery with no cure possible, silence works, or perhaps 10 paces at dawn.

WOW!!
You asked.
You received published & actual dimensions from various replies.
And you have the audacity to call out someone that has forgotten more than you'll ever know.
What has this world come to....spineless individuals.

Yes, I appreciated all the informational replies I received and said so. I did not appreciate Butch using my thread to trash another's reply which came from a reliable source also and caused that poster to leave the thread. Reading your posts over the years, I have to come to the conclusion that you don't have very good table manners either. If you guys excuse for rude forum behavior is that you and Butch are so much smarter than everyone else on this forum, why don't you find a better one so that you don't have to consort with us dummies? BTW, spineless individuals are those that attack other people on forums and then whine when they get called out for it. Use the advice I gave Butch: Find the biggest guy in the bar that's just a little out of it and start giving it to him like you do to people on this forum. Let us know how this turns out or are you too spineless?
