Ive heard of people doing this to Howa 1500 actions as well. Ive never tried it but id like to hear from people that have changed them to 16tpi as well.
Sounds good.I have a PTG TIN coated tap with centering mandrel that converts the Howa thread to Rem. 700 thread. Works quite well. Don't know if they still offer it.

I tell you what I don't think it is a good idea for me to post anything I have seen on this post or any other I am always proven wrong on my assessments.PS I guess I am going to have to get me another set of thread guage mine only has 1.5 mm
My thread gauge doesn't have 1.6mm size at all.Our shop one goes from 1.75 to 1.5
