Lawton barrel and Sako 995 barrel threads

On the Sako 995 barrel threads, I'm just taking the easy way out and asking if anyone knows the form and pitch. Appears to be a metric thread?

2nd question; any experience with Lawton barrels? They look to be a high quality barrel, but I haven't heard of anybody's experience with them. Are they cut rifled or button rifled?

Thanks, Tom

Hey Tom,

Yes, The Sako M995 is a metric thread but I dont recall the actual pitch etc on it sorry.

I believe lawton barrels are button rifled but I could be wrong.

Dom, I talked to Lawton. They said if the barrel was made in the last 2 yrs or so, it is probably button rifled. If earlier, probably cut rifled. The barrel had very minimal identification on the breech. No serial #. The only way I know it is a Lawton is that a friend ordered it from them, about 1 1/2 yrs ago. It is very straight and concentric, and the borescope shows it to be a typical high quality lapped finish. I compared it to a Lilja and a Krieger. Can't tell them apart looking inside.

I rebarreled my .270 MK V to .340 with this barrel, and have started barrel break-in. Looks like it's going to be a dandy.

Thanks for the confirmation on the 995 threads. The metric threads are foreign to me (sorry) and I don't know anybody who memorizes them. I can get a metric pitch gage and verify them.

Thanks again, Tom

Its very tough to tell if the barrel is cut or buttoned. If you gave me the specs on it i may be able to tell better.

Notaguru, When I compared it to the Lilja, I was comparing it to a high quality button rifled barrel, and then to the Krieger, a high quality cut rifled barrel. With the Hawkeye, I absolutely couldn't tell any difference. It even looked like all 3 had been lapped with the same grit compound.

Bottom line now; if it shoots like it appears to want to, It won't matter anymore which way it was rifled.

Thanks to all, Tom
