Sako 75 or tikka T3X

Hi, I have the opportunity to either buy a pitted sako 75 and rebarrel in .270 or buy a new gun. Something like a tikka t3x with hunter stock. Both work out around the 1k mark. The sako comes with a wild cat mod and has seen little use and will be resin bedded in the price. Whats your thoughts.
Tom.

For even money I'll take the 75. Live mine! Not saying there's anything wrong with the tikka. Just I'd take a Sako over it for even money

I think Sako higher quality myself, what are the plans down the road? Virtually no aftermarket support for Sako, where you customize a Tikka easy.

I have two Tikka T3's, 243 and 308. The triggers are terrific. The synthetic stock on the 243 is solid and stiff. The wooded stock on the 308 is attractive. The actions are smooth. The accuracy is good enough for a big game hunting rifle but not outstanding even with tailored reloads. My 243 shoots a little better. The 308 is a lighter than I like making the recoil is noticable but not excessive. My opinion: they are good value.

I have a tikka and it is a good gun but I would take the Sako 75 and rebarrel, if there was no other problems with the rifle.

My cousin had a new Tikka T3 25-06. It grouped 1/2 moa at 100 consistently. He had to have a Sako, so he bought a Finnlight in 25-06. It is an absolutely great hunting rifle, but it will not shoot 1/2 moa, at least not consistently, more like 3/4 to 1". But of course that will kill anything you want to kill. Barlow

I have had 3 Tika's in .243. They have all been 1/2 inch guns out of the box. Tika's barrels are the same barrels they use on Sakos. The triggers are terrific and can easily be put to the 6 to 8 once range. For the price of one Sako you can have a Tika with a good scope on it and change. Oh, Tika actions are like butter. I have had both the wood stock and the synthetic but I like the feel of the wood much better for a hunting rifle.

What is pitted on the Sako? Is it the barrel or action? I looked at two Tikkas, the Hunter and the Forest: the Hunter was $518 and the Forest was $618 at Eurooptics. Have you priced a re-barrel? I recently priced one on a Remington 700 and quoted anywhere from $1000 for everything down to $300 for the gunsmithing plus the cost of a new barrel.

Based on what little I know I wouldn't go with the Sako simply because of the quality implied by name. Part of the quality will become a corner marker when you take the barrel off anyway.

The Tikka is arguably a more rigid action. I own 3 factory T3's all Supervarmint models. All shoot exceptionally well with nice triggers for a factory single stage. Plenty of aftermarket stuff for T3's around now too.

I own them both, I'm fond of both. I don't think ere is a wrong choice. Pick the one you like the most and run with it.

I'm not sure where the 1K price tag is coming from on a rusted rifle anyway. Sounds like the barrel is going to be replaced regardless, it comes down to preference now. I can't seem to give a Sako 85 away that I'm trying to move, it's a sweet gun, wanted to turn it into a custom, action screw spacing a train wreck, big bucks and still have to run the factory bottom metal.

I would see if there is a difference in stock design. My Tikka T3x Lite in 270 kicked like a mule until i installed a break & pad. If the Sako has a better design for recoil, I would go with the Sako. If they are similar, Then I would recommend the Sako. I got my blued Tikka for $600. I also went with the modular forearm & palm grip. Good Luck!
My 270 is grouping 1/2 MOA w/ 130 SST's if I do my part.

I have been shooting Sako's for over 40 years and never needed after market support. Wait aren't they made by the same company?

I wanted to say the same, but refrained.
Today, a lot of Tikka's are bought with changes in mind, I know mine was. Keep the trigger and the action, just like a Rem 700.

I think Tikka's are good rifles just not as good as Sako's the old ones, 75, and 85. Can't say much for the A7.

I have a couple Tikka 270 barrels for you. They are made by Sako. One has 22 shots thru it, the other might be new...I'd have to look. Re-barreling would go from a grand, down to $100.:)
