Have a Sako 22PPC single shot, that has way too much freebore as 52SMK will not even be in the neck when it touches the rifling. Obviously from the factory that way as the rifle has been shot very little. Would it be better to set back the barrel and re-chamber/throat or just get another barrel installed? Who is good at that?

How does it shoot now? Not a big deal to set it back, any good smith can do it. If it shoots, I wouldn't mess with it.

The Sako 6 P.P.C. U.S.A. chambers were set up the same way.
I had a .120 jump to the lands using my Br dies to seat bullets for that 6 PPC USA Sako.

Those loads jumping a Berger 65 gr. fb with AA-2015 shot into .2 at 100 yards .....

Shoot that rifle BEFORE you do anything to it.

Mine will only shoot about .5" now. I too had a 6ppc Sako and it would do much better, like you in the .2's. Will try a little more with it and if it will not be more consistent will set it back, as that is the cheaper option for now.

That seems to be common with Sako's. I had an L46 factory chambered (original Bofors Steel barrel) in 222 Remington Magnum, unfortunately with a 1-16 twist barrel. It was limited to 40 gr. bullet weights, maximum, and had an extremely long throat.

With a reasonable amount of bullet to case neck contact, there was close to 1/2" of bullet jump. Needless to say it would not shoot. Pulled the barrel off & rebarreled with a Hart 1-14 in 223 Remington.
