Sako Extractor

I was thinking the PTG bolt in my Edge was a Sako. Pulled it and saw that its a Lawton. Anyone have issues with a Lawton extractor while we're talking extractor's...

Everything thing is great with a Sako extractor until it is not! I use a few on my personal rifles, with no problems. But my loads are not nuclear and I am in control. I will not install one in a customers rifle period. And I definitely would not install one in a friends rifle who's loads are nuclear!! Never a good practice to kill off your shooting buddies.

BBB,
I have a Lawton action and I was told the bolt's were made by PTG. Whether it's PTG or Lawton, I couldn't tell, but it's not given a moments problem in 14 years, with a few thousand rounds fired.

Leeman,

And it will continue to be great. Until the unlikely event of you blowing the back end out of a case. Then the 50 or 60,000 psi blows the extractor off of the bolt face and down the lug race way and towards your face!! This is the whole point of this discussion. Not to be rude, just clarifying the situation.

I made a comment with a question in another Sako Extractor discussion and never got a reply so I will try again in this one.

I've never owned a Sako Rifle but I have looked at a few. Don't they have a bar attached to the bolt blocking the lug raceway that would prevent the extractor from exiting? A crafty Gunsmith might make a part like that for a 700 bolt.

What about the M-16 conversion on a Remington, what’s the consensus on them I had one on a Remington that had been converted for a 6 ppc no problems it was on a sleeved Rem 721 25 years ago !

I read many discussions on this website but seldom post a reply, this post is pretty much related to safety in case of problems related to extremely hot loads and the potential danger in case there is a case separation or an extractor being blown from the bolt. With this in mind, I do not understand why very few people ever comment on the potential danger involved with right hand shooters shooting rifles with left loading port- after all, that loading port is right there in front of your face. Any comments?

Or left handers firing right port firearms. My first hand experience with case head separation or primer piercing has been that the escaping gases came back thru the firing pin channel and the bolt raceway.
