S&W 14-3 Help needed!

I have modified a 686 to double action only to met NRA Action pistol Production rules. If the revolver had single action ,then it had to meet a 3.5 LBS single action weight limit...if no single action then there was no minimum trigger weight.

I hate dumb rules.

One remedy for that would have been buy a bobbed hammer and fit it (the DA sear). No SA that way, and the original would drop right back in when wanted.

The 5" is reasonably rare. "K" Frame .38 Special. If it's DA only, it has been altered. You'll need another hammer as the SA notch has likely been removed.

Looks like a twin to mine. The exterior rust doesn't look horrible. Do the cylinder holes and barrel look good?

Update! Thanks for all the help, guys! I was busy so I let the deal cool. The other day, I saw the guy . I dangled 5 $100 dollar bills in front of him and the guy took it. The barrel looks pristine. Most of the “rusty spots” rubbed out to almost nothing. The insides look clean. When things calm down, I’ll reread this thread and decide what to do.

Clean it up and see what it will do. I just bought one of those gripper excersizer things off flea bay. <10$ Dang,what a difference just a couple days using it makes. Wifey asked what it was for,told her it was for stress relief...... "you know,psychology today stuff"

She said something,so I held it up in her direction and starting ripping off a quick series. Thought she was gonna wet her drawers laughing..... wait a few minutes,pointed it back at her and started squeezing it again,haha. She's still laughing.

But the dang thing works. The new ones have adj tension screw to increase #'s. I'm at the lowest setting..... for now.
