Help With Serial Nimber

Guys,
I have a Winchester Model 70 in 243WSSM and cannot find any info on the serial number G2592129
Why does winchester make it so hard to find info on this rifle.
I have googled this till my fingers got raw and still cannot find any info.
Can you give a guy some help???

Hard times were encountered by the good old company, and since the early '90s, Winchester has been bought/sold/traded more than once.

So, basically, Winchester became little more than a "name".

Since it is not a company of continuous single ownership/manufacture, the method of S/N assignment and record-keeping went through some changes.

The later Model 70 "G" series serial number system was sort of a crap shoot when they began the "classic" series, and they went back and used some lower serial numbers (but with the same G prefx).

Anyway, a S/N G348XXX (G followed by 6 digits) would probably have been made about 2000 or 2001. The G304XXXX (G followed by 7 digits) was about the highest S/N issued when the New Haven plant closed in 2006.

Your S/N seems to be in the neighborhood of a 2005 build.

Mike Innis mentions (Berger Bullet Reloading Manual, 1st Edition) that Winchester introduced the .243WSSM in early 2003.
