Lacking any lube with non carbide bushings, the neck can be pulled forward when it comes out of the bushing....the stretch point is the case/shoulder junction. The more you size the neck radially, the more likely this is to happen. -Al

I lube with Imperial sizing wax. I lube the inside of the necks too, for sizing over a mandrel. I've stuck my share of cases in F/L bushing dies, so I use a good amount of lube. Then I rinse cases with lacquer thinner to remove the waxy lube.

I don’t lube the inside of the necks Pop but I also don’t mandrel size. If I dent a case mouth, I will push a mandrel through it and only use it for a fouler or sighter.

After all this great discussion ... there seems to be one undeniable fact. Lubing the neck when neck sizing in a bushing die, will not "hurt" anything or cause any problems. The debate seems to be around whether or not it will "help". Fair statement?

Just got my Redding S bushing neck sizer. I got the Titanium Nitride bushing.
With this bushing, is it necessary to lube the outside case neck?
Instructions don't address it.

It may not be necessary but I do it any how since the neck is the most sized location on the case. It may prevent brass galling transfer to the bushing? If I am wrong there are no consequences since you have to clean the lube off the case anyhow.

I think people put way too much time and emphasis on cleaning the lube off the cases after sizing. I’ve been sizing lightly with one shot for years and I never clean any lube off of the cases. In my last competition at 1000 yards, my straight .284 win shot a two day total of 991-51X in the F-open class. I’m by no means the best 1000 yard shooter in F class, but certainly not cleaning the one shot spray lube off the cases didn’t hold me back one bit. Just my two cents and your experience my vary, but don’t overthink precision reloading. Test everything for yourself, and if a process doesn’t help your score, it probably isn’t worth it.

Any unnecessary increase in bolt thrust, over an extended period of shooting, can't be good for the rifle. At least that's my uneducated understanding. Anyone with good instruments knows where it will hurt....shoulder bump. Pushing lube into the die with lube above the case body will eventually change your shoulder bump. How important is your bump? Lube migrates and anything above the case walls will eventually change your bump. Everyone has an opinion.

Doesn’t seem to have any negative effects whatsoever on my Bat M, Stolle Panda or Bat Nuevo. Imperial wax I will remove, Hornady one shot I never remove it. I lightly coat brass before sizing and very little remains. In fact, my rounds are not even slippery.

Honestly a little Hornady one shot goes a lot further than people think.

I always lube necks (and case bodies) with Imperial Sizing Wax, even when using a TiN bushing. I wipe lube off with an old t shirt.

Dave M's comments on One Shot will get me to try it.

I don't worry about bolt thrust, considering the pressures that everybody loads to in Benchrest. Heck, the primers are falling out of that Lapua 220 Russian brass after several reloads, but I never heard of a benchrester replacing his bolt or action because he wore them out with overpressure.

I use a bit of RCBS case lube in my cleaning media. Good polish.
Then I wipe every case with a dry rag.
I doubt this actually removes the lube entirely, but I don't mind a microfilm of something on my brass.

This has worked fine for shoulder bumping and bushing neck sizing. I don't FL size.
My cases do not grow in OAL, but I only bump shoulders 1-1.5thou from logged, so maybe that's why.
I only downsize necks 2thou, so there is very little force applied in my neck sizing.
Then I followup with a mandrel just prior to charging cases.
