S bushing die

Texas Solo

B.S. High Master
Just got my Redding S bushing neck sizer. I got the Titanium Nitride bushing.
With this bushing, is it necessary to lube the outside case neck?
Instructions don't address it.

I lube the case body and some of the shoulder and none of the neck. Works great with the titanium nitride Redding bushings.

I’ve also done lube on the necks and if they were taking more press force than I’m perfectly comfortable with, I’d go back to lubing the necks.

Lube where you don’t need it is a minor issue (more to clean up mostly) but a stuck case is awful.

Fair point I did miss the ‘neck’ mentioned in the body. Case shouldn't get stuck in that die with that bushing assuming this is to resize the neck of a fired case.

That said, I’d still lube the neck if the resistance was unexpectedly great. Better safe than stuck.

How much are you sizing down the neck? Are you making 6mm from 6.5mm brass or something?

Everyone has an opinion, and I (respect but) disagree with the last one. You should always lube the entire outside of the case, including the neck, irrespective of bushing type or material. The first time you get a case stuck in your die ... you'll wish you had lubed properly. I learned this lesson the hard way.
And I respect your opinion, thank you for that. I have reloaded thousands of cases and I never lube the shoulder, if you do you will have inconsistent shoulder bump and it’s not going to get stuck, no lube on the body will but not the shoulder. If you lube the neck it will shove some down to the shoulder. If for some reason I think I need to lube the neck I use imperial dry neck lube.
The only case I ever stuck was a .222 Remington that I used Hornaday one shot on, this was probably in the mi 90’s and I didn’t realize or didn’t pay attention you need to let the cases sit for a few minutes to dry, by the way the entire case including neck was lubed.

I lube with Imperial sizing wax. I lube the inside of the necks too, for sizing over a mandrel. I've stuck my share of cases in F/L bushing dies, so I use a good amount of lube. Then I rinse cases with lacquer thinner to remove the waxy lube.

I asked the Redding tech this exact question because I have all Ti bushings. He said that they find that using lube with Ti bushings results in slightly more consistent results even though lube isn't required.

I use Type S FL dies so I just lube the necks as I'm lubing the rest of the case. The smallest amount of Imperial Wax gets the job done.

I believe that the question was about lubing necks when using bushing dies. Of course one needs to lube case bodies, but I have not ever lubed necks sized in either neck or bushing fl dies ever, and there have been no issues.
