RVing and competition

Thinking long and hard about getting in to the full-time RV life. Should I research a schedule where I would be on a circuit? Or, would it be better to set up shop in one location and stay in place for the season. For example, Ben Avery through the winter, then move season by season to different regions. I would become an F-Class gypsy.

Anybody already doing this?

You might PM Nomad47. I think he did something like this for a while. I have heard of people starting out at Ben Avery in February then working their way north through California for the month of March for a series of matches referred to as March Madness. After that, there is probably shooting pretty much anywhere. I've thought about it myself but I keep getting stuck on how little space one of those things has for all of my absolutely necessary stuff.

My neighbor did (seasonal) for several years shooting highpower. He would load ammo during the winter so all he had to do was grab ammo cans and go to the matches. That wouldn't work for me but I always thought that was a good way to go.

I am seriously thinking about it myself. I can't settle down and always want to move. It would be much easier if I lived in a motorhome. I think it would be a great way to live.

When you're full time, there isn't enough time to do everything. The wife and I were full time for over 3 years, mostly out west, and we would travel about 250 miles and then settle down for at least a week. If we were going farther, then a day or two to get there, then settle for at least a week. The one thing to remember (it took us 6 months to realize this) is that you're not on vacation and you don't have to be in a hurry to get anywhere.

Good luck - it's a GREAT life style!

Alex, I worked construction and would travel to jobs. So i got a travel trailer and stayed in it on one job …….. they sure are not made to live in the cold. Sold it……… jim

I lived in a 5th wheel for about 2 years when I first went to work for the Railroad. Union seniority kept me moving back then. If I was you, I would rent one for a month and see how you like it. I did it because it was cost effective, but I will never live in one again. I need room for my toys.

There are actually a lot of people that stay in an RV at or around Ben Avery for the winter shooting season then travel back east for the summer. You really can beat the winter shooting season in Phoenix especially for an F-Class shooter.

There is plenty of room in one of these

for six rifles and all the associated reloading gear that goes with them.
I even had a portable shooting bench and target stand so I could go out on BLM land and shoot at any distance I wanted.
My portable shooting bench did double duty as my reloading bench. I would do my powder dispensing at the kitchen table, then move outside to seat bullets. Brass prep was also done outside. And why not, we were always parked where the weather was great.

if you get inventive you can take some of your toys with you. I bought this rig a few years ago with the plan being, to go and fish some of the Bass Tournaments. So I go and spend a couple of tons of money on Motor Home, Bass Boat, trailer and so much tackle I could have started my own tackle shop ( that would have been a much better idea than fishing Tournaments). There was a flaw in my plan though. You actually need to know how to catch a bass every once in a while.

I once heard a story about a guy setting up a rig like that and close-lining a bridge with the boat. It didn't have a happy ending, lol

Mike, The whole rig was legal height so you have to be completely unaware of what you were doing or just plane stupid, to have that happen. Also there were only 6 trailers like this ever built that I have heard of.

Yeah I think the home made rig was over height ,lol. It was a sophisticated hydraulic lift gadget made by a retired guy that missed something important. I definitely like yours !!!
