rust

what is or would be the best way to remove rust from variuos places on a gun, action,barrel& anywhere else it may be? stainless and blued rifles both. i can tell you more later when i see exactly where the rust is a friend has a rifle he is trying to sell but the rust seems to be an issue. any help would be appreciated. thanks

One of the best methods of removing surface rust is to take an empty cartridge, collapse the neck in a vise and use it as a scraper to remove the rust. The brass won't remove any bluing that might be on the metal. Finish with oil.

ah very interesting, from what my friend has told me the rust is on the action he does not know very much about guns in general so i thought maybe i could help. when i get the gun i will be able to tell you all more about the problem, and maybe ya'll can tell me what it is worth, all i know right now is it is a mountain eagle by MRI and it says action by sako pretty sure it is a .33 rem ultra mag with dark blue finish on the barrel and some rust on the action, if anybody knows anything about this gun please let me know.

Back in the mid-90's a friend bought a new one and it came with a Krieger barrel and had an H-S Precission aluminum bedded stock. His was a .338 Win Mag. If I remember corectly John's shot rather decent groups.
