Rust prevention

What works to keep rust away from your reloading dies etc? Also, if you put it on the inside of your dies, what works best to remove it, before using them again? I reload in my garage. Thanks, Mike

I coat mine with Kroil after every use. That means I have to clean the oil off next time I use them but it's worth the effort.
I also make it a point to take them out of the container I store them in and take them apart at least once every six months to clean and re-oil them.

Not everybody uses their rigs every day. Some like myself have other things that cut into my shooting time. If you pick up one of your rigs, be sure to wipe it down with an oily or treated rag before you put it away.
Nothing worse that going back a couple months later and finding rusty finger prints on the barrel where your picked it up.:eek::eek: The acid in your skin goes after that blued/polished finish.

What about motor oil?

When I went to Viet Nam I broke down my guns so no wood was on them and wrapped them in newspaper and soaked them with motor oil. They were just as I stored them when I got back.

Move your reloading into a air conditioned living space.

Rust does not form very quickly under 55% relative humidity.
A well air conditioned work place or house will often hover between 50% and 55% relative humidity.

RH under 40% will prevent most rust but it may be uncomfortable due to the skin drying that it causes.

I ordered some Eezox. It's a dry lube/cleaner/rust prevention. Very good reviews and Youtube videos.
Thanks for the comments.
That's good stuff. Very good lube and excellent corrosion protection.

Smells good, too. I think so, anyway.

My reloading spot isn't outside the A/C but if it was, I'd wipe everything down with a silicon cloth or use any of the various moisture displacement sprays like CRC 06026.

After a lot of the corrosion and lubricity tests done out there I use Hornady One Shot, not the case lube but the other kind. It is usually in the top two and is easy to apply. It has worked great on my rifles and my dies.

I wrap mine in the brown paper that wicks away moister, matter of fact I did that today with some 3n1 oil, also found one with a little rust and done all of them but then I only have 6, so it was quick and painless

The best I have seen is pro - tech
got it at the gun show Put it in every thing scope and all the metal parts . In Africa the guns are over the shoulder when carrying .
Sweaty hand and all the dust Washed the gun with water every day and no rust .
Friend had the blueing gone and rust where the hand was . Best I have seen. Larry

Slip 2000 ewl , even my Wilson case gauges are rust free... Use it on the press also.. I have heard of people painting the insides of dies with finger nail polish for long term...

Corosion X, Eezox or Boesheild T9..
There is a couple of articles on this website about rest prevention oils, after reading them a few years ago I tried CorosionX and have been using it ever since, great all round oil.

Cheers Rushty

Many years back (late 90s)I picked up a spray can of a British product that was called Fastex Barrel Lube because I had read about it being a good treatment to reduce bolt friction. I played with it a bit and set it aside. Many years later I bought a used drill press that had a lot of surface rust, no pitting, but it required a lot of elbow grease to clean up. After removing most of the corrosion from the main column I decided that I did not want to do that again and looked on my shelves at the various products that I might use to protect steel from corrosion. After some consideration, and label reading, I chose the Fastex, coating the freshly abraded metal thoroughly. The floor standing press is right next to my garage door, along the wall. Winters here have a lot of damp days, and the garage is unheated. More often than not, we come into the house through the garage using the opener. It has been about four years since I cleaned up that drill press, and there is no rust on it. Fastex has what they call a surface modifier. You might want to look into it. Of course there are other good products out there, that other posters have mentioned, but I thought that I would mention this one, since I doubt that many of you have heard of it. The product name has changed slightly, and it is currently packaged in a pump spray bottle rather than an aerosol can.
