Runout with FL sizing 30BR (little update.)

related to my other post, working on another problem I found the the SAC bushings are tapered. that might be why they work so well to reduce runout, but the neck tension would be different than using a redding bushing of the same size, reddings dont seem to be tapered.

Don’t fall into the trap that you need to spend big bucks on bushings. You can get a Monday morning or Friday afternoon bushing from any of the manufacturers regardless of price point.

Just a quick update. I found some old 6br brass from a barrel I no longer have. I checked the runout on 10 or so cases and had .001 or less. I took the clip out of the ram for the shell holder, and let the shell holder go commando, and then I didn't tighten down the die all the way and let it have some play. ( still havent gotten my o-rings yet!) After sizing about 10 cases the most run out I had on 1 case was .0015. the rest were about .001, and that was with the expander ball in the Redding die.

So ill be shooting my 30BR next week and hopefully I just fixed the problem by listening to you all. I will let you all know soon.

However, I have a question. The cases that have already been sized for my 30br... If the problem was corrected, would I be able to take the run out out of the cases, or will they need to be fired first and then re try with this method?

U could run them back thru the die and see if it improves.

I guess firing them as is then is the alternative.

You'll have better luck correcting the run out on those cases if you give them a little stress relief prior to sizing.
