Ruger American Rimfire

Mine was horrible for accuracy. So I swapped in a barrel from shaw that fits a rpr. Now itis shooting right at 1/2" at 50 yds. Sometimes better. With CCI SV. I also put it in a boyds prairie hunter stock. Next it is going to be bedded. Just have not found the time to do it.

And YES, you can change the barrel on these if you are skilled enough.

On the Rim Fires I have found that the action screws holding the stock down play a huge role in the accuracy game. Try doing a ladder test shooting 5 shot groups while torquing the action screws down until you find the sweet spot. Try in increment of 5 pounds until you get something to work with then try small increments above and below that. Other things are rimfires don't like to be cleaned until accuracy starts to fail. And lastly always bed the stock. Good luck .
With my front action screw tight when I tighten the screw at the trigger guard , the barrel moves about a 1/4 inch at the forend . So I don't think it is worth missing with the plastic stock . I have been trying to elamiting the cock on closing and getting a new wood stock. And I do have a Shilen 22RF barrel just seating around collecting dust .This RAR is just something to play with . Being I'm to old to shoot a match any more.

I think most of us who don't shoot rimfire "seriously", are pretty clueless about what it takes to achieve match accuracy with our ammo and equipment.

I've always thought that you guys should be allowed at least one "mulligan" on your scored target to compensate for the ammo thing.;) jd
