Ruger action for F-Class?

Not sure anyone has firm prices on them yet... I put my order for one in today, and was told a delivery date 'sometime after February 1st'.

Either that or I saw another Ruger like yours for sale over on 65creedmoor.com for $675 with a very low round count...

Gmitchell: Record broke? You know very well this sorta shooting is quite common. I was simply pointing out that one doesn't have to buy the ''top of the line goodies'' to build a good shooter...(unless one is to get very serious about competitions). I am 62 years old and I simply have fun with the guys shooting informal matches using F-class targets. I am sure that target is still stapled to the backboard under a couple feet of snow. If your reply was truly complimentary-- Thank you very much. If it was sarcasm---go pick on someone else.

I bought a BVSS from Jim Briggs had it shipped to my FFL. It was a .300wsm, took it apart unfired, had a Shilen 30 inch .7mm RSAUM chambered with a brake. WHAT A SHOOTER at 1000 yards. I'm taking the brake off to shoot in F-Open on Jan 1-2 at Port Malabar Fl. I like my Savages alot.

Hi Wayne,
I'll jump in on this. I own several Rugers, all hunting rifles. I own a varmint/target .223 with the 2 stage trigger like yours that has been the demise of thousands of prairie dogs. There is no question that some Rugers can shoot. Randy Gregory, world class gunsmith from Medford, WI shot a Ruger action in a match rifle for years, and won. That said, he stated the actions are "springy" due to being cast. The diagonal action screw is great for an occassional hunting rifle, but poses challenges in a match rifle situation with pillars and glass.

I like the mauser style action, and own several pre-64 Wins as XC, F-class, and hunting rifles. I don't think the action syle is flawed in its design. Are there better action choices out there to build a competitive less than 1/2 MOA F-class rifle? Absolutely. The question is are you willing to invest the time and money rebarrelling and working up loads only to find out the action is holding you back? I tell people often that F-class is a completely different game than XC . The target is tough.

I guess I am saying, like all of us, you pay your money, and take your chances. But I wouldn't risk my money on a Ruger action for a competition F-class rifle.
