Ruger 77 17hm2 tumbling

17-222

I picked up a 77/17hm2 all weather a few months back and the bullets all tumble out of the gun. At 50yds it won’t stay on a sheet of paper. The crown looks good and I cleaned the barrel. Anyone experience 17hm2 tumbling? I have tried 4 different boxes of ammo different lots. At this point I might just list it as is.

PM sent..

Never heard that before. Those are bringing absolutely silly prices on Gunbroker. Assuming you didn’t overpay for it, you can probably make some good money on it.

Since the bullets won't stay on a sheet of paper how did you determine that they are tumbling? Are they showing evidence of it on the backstop or what?

Have you taken a good look at the rifling to see if maybe there is some missing or damaged?

Or put one of these bad boys on:

Mic the bullets to see if they are undersize if they are all from 1 box . Try a different brand.Check th crown for damage

I've never seen problems with a mach2 tumbling. I'm curious what you'll find out. Ruger quality control can be a bit lacking at times. Maybe the bore is slightly oversize. I'd be tempted to slug the barrel.

After trying four different kinds of bullets - safe to say it isn't the ammo. I'd send it off to Ruger. Even if not under warranty, I'm sure they would be fair to fix it up.
