Rugar Predator .223 reviews

muleman69

USMC -1st marine Div. RVN
Looking for some updated reviews on the Rugar American Predator. Has anyone wrung one out lately?

Take a look at this one I bought.

Sub-1/2" with a variety of weights and powders. 50-grain to 68-grain. Much heavier won't fit in the AR-style magazine. Quickly turning into one of my favorite rifles.

My little bro has one in 6.5 grendel. Stock sucks but overall a very nice gun for $400. He shoots the Hornady 123 grain black and gets MOA for 3 shot groups. He’s hit a 33% IPSC consistently at 400 yards. I think it’s a sweet little set up.
Ya stock really sucks , It is going to get some paint first thing. I can't handle Marine Corp green anymore....lol

I have one in 204 and one in 6mm creedmoor. They are both shooters. The 6mm creedmoor i did put in a Boyd's stock. The 204 was left alone. I would not hesitate to buy another. I just bought another 223 but went with a savage axis. Could not beat $300 with a scope for just hunting coyotes.

I purchased one for my son years ago. 1/2 rifle all day. I had to rub it in to one of my cardiologist buds who has spent thousands on customs. I stuck a photo copy of the 1/2" cluster of the five shot with factory ammo. I wrote on the photo copy, $369 versus $2500 custom. He was not happy with me, but handled it well and we still love the customs. For the money, it can not be beat.

My shooting buddy has the ranch rifle version. Bought it as he had some 10 shot AR magazines left after the Great Socialist Gun Grab. Other than the rattle as the 3 lug goes through the magazine and the Tupperware stock...it shoots very well indeed.

Have one in 223 for a few years. Ok little gun, Shoots between 3/4 and 1. MOA at a 100 yd
Work good, you get what you pay for

Any load data out there? What Bullet wtt best in the 1-8 twist
I get very good accuracy with 50-grain VMax, 52-grain Hornady HPBTs, 52-grain AMax (now ELD-M), 53-grain Hornady VMAX, 55-grain Hornady SP and 68-grain Hornady HPBTs. As mentioned earlier, length becomes an issue with heavier bullets if you don't select carefully due to the magazine restrictions. 2.24" loaded length is the best I can do and still leave room for reliable feeding. Powders I use are H322, AA2200 Data and CFE223.
