Roy hunter blow ups

Has anyone ever blown up any of Roy's bullets? I'm shooting the 102.5 gr. bullets and found a node at 3,380 fps. that really hammers, but I may not have the chance to take them to distance before going to a big 600 yd. match. BTW, I'm running them in a 7.5 twist bbl.
Thanks,

Lloyd

No background with the bullet in question but several years playing on the edge of bullet failure. You are pushing 325k rpm. It was my experience that 300k rpm was about the limit where things get iffy. That becomes problematic with some bullet designs that require RPM at or above 300k to stabilize. Trust me I spent 4 years fighting this and have had hundreds of blow ups out of 15000ish rounds down range.

At that RPM's it's not if, it's usually when are they going to start
blowing up.
A little hard carbon buildup in the throat and it spells jacket failure.
Best bet next time is to get a slower twist barrel.
8 will do fine with his 103's

I ran a high node for while, no blow ups but I did see very small groups one day then spit rounds the next.

I started with the load that I used for 105-110 bullets, knowing it would be safe. They just started shooting small right away with a little seating depth tuning. I'll back them down and see what happens.
Thanks everyone for your input,

Lloyd

If this is predictable/repeatable. Set up a target at about15 yds. and shoot a couple through it and report back.

Lloyd there oughtabee a node or two back from 3,300+ that’ll work just fine in a 1:7.5.

Fast(er) twist + fast(est) velocity = throat & barrel wear (not that it matters much in < magnums) besides a greater potential for flyers, maybe bullets not reaching targets intact.

Adverse effects more often show up at > 600 yds. though so there’s that to consider as well. (In the other direction I’ve had DTAC 115’s not make it to 300 yards from a 1:8 & they weren’t doing 2,900....)

Now if that pipe were 1:8.5 or 1:9 that 3,300 fps might be worthwhile.

Backed it down 2 full grains and am still at 3,200. The case capacity is getting lower that I like so may go to a slower powder and see what happens.
Thanks,

Lloyd
