Rookie screw up ! Stuck case in chamber

Buddy of mine gave me some loaded ammo for my 22-250 . Of course it worked fine in his chamber ! I chambered hard in mine ,BANG ! Now I can't eject the fired case ? I used the Cleaning rod from the muzzle down to try and knock it out ,its really stuck !!!!!! hope I don't have to take it to a gun smith and have him remove the bbl ?

You can try putting the barrel and action in the freezer overnight and try it again in the morning. I am assuming you can lift the bolt handle but you are not able to pull it back. If you can't lift the bolt, you can try getting it to come up with a soft hammer.

You can also try using a soft hammer on the bolt to get it to come back if you are able to lift the handle.

And by all means spray the piss out of it with kroil.

If the extractor slips off the rim you could tap cheap cleaning rod from the muzzle(thinking old three pc or something). Maybe a combination of freezer never done that part myself. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

That's an easy way to break the bolt handle (don't ask how I know).

If you can open the bolt all the way up, then insert the cleaning rod from muzzle and tap against the brass until it opens. If this doesn't work, hammering on bolt handle won't work either.

If bolt it totally locked, then get it to a gunsmith.

I assume you were able to get the bolt open and pulled back if you were trying to knock the stuck case out with a cleaning rod. If that's true, it WILL come out by using the cleaning rod, but you may have to damage the rod by using hard forceful strikes to get it out.

Spray a bunch of Kroil, WD40, or PB Blaster down the barrel, let it sit muzzle up for 10-15 minutes and beat the hell out of it with the cleaning rod while holding the rod centered in the bore with one hand so the rod does not damage your crown when it flexes from the hammer blows. I've had to do it before. It may take a while, but it will come out. Just expect to sacrifice the cleaning rod. Its the price you pay for erring with unfamiliar ammo :(

PS; A steel cleaning rod will work best. Cheap aluminum rods will not work.

I agree you can break a bolt handle if you are not careful, I certainly didn't mean to beat on it with a 20oz framing hammer either though! :o
Regardless of what you do just don't take your frustrations out on your bolt.

Using the cleaning rod, put rings of electrical tape around it at intervals ,say every 4 to 6 inches, and up near the crown that will center it in the barrel and keep it from damaging the bore should the rod flex when hammering
Great idea wish I had thought of it.

A lesson learned the hard way! Luckily no one was hurt, and most likely the firearm will survive as well.

Never, ever, use reloads worked up for a different firearm, the results can be much worse than what you are experiencing. In fact, it's a good idea to not use reloads from anyone but yourself.

If you've tried all the simply conventional methods as suggested above, take it to your Gunsmith. Those guys have unique ways of removing those pesky casings. Been there done that. What is both a frustration as well as a relief, a Gunsmith will have that puppy out of your chamber within minutes. Right tool for the right job.

Looks like that's what I'll have to do. Soaked it over night with a both Break free and a bbl full of WD-40 and all that came out was the primer. Yes I was able to open the bolt the claw extractor slipped over the rim with out damage to the extractor.

Take the barrel off and use a similar method to removing a case stuck in a die this way no tooling, cleaning rods, etc will be in contact with any part of the gun except for the barrel vise and action wrench. The would be my approach but then I have access to a full shop, lacking that I would take it to a gunsmith.

Good Luck!

Good advice here.....You may get the case out via the soaking and raps with a hammer on a cleaning rod. (Probably the rod will be ruined for cleaning as the bearings cage won't take it). I have no idea of your skill nor tools you have therefore I will assume the worst, so my advice is to call a gunsmith and get an estimate. It won't be as bad as you think and what WILL be high is damage that you may inadvertently cause trying it yourself. Is the bolt OUT or is just the handle up? If you had a rod in there I would assume the bolt is out.
Soak it....wait 24 hours....rod in....give it a few raps....if it comes out GOOD...if not pick up the phone.
Upside? You won't fire other folks ammo again.

Why not? Let's be optimistic and assume that was the only problem round. I bet the others will be fine! ;D

Just kidding of course!

To go further on the "Let's be optimistic" vein......a good short read on the internet "OPERATION ELDEST SON" Some folks here may find it fascinating. It was GREAT while it was in play. Also an insight to 'other' peoples reloads!!

A number of years back our city had an large infusion of what were called Boat People (perhaps 40,000), refugees from SE Asia, after our withdrawal from South Viet Nam. Naturally, for adult immigrants there were ongoing language issues. Going forward a few years one of these fellows had joined a local rifle and pistol club, and had gotten into beginning reloading. I think he started with a .357 and loaded with 2400. Some time after that he bought an AR, and attempted to reload for it. Thinking that since the 2400 had been a good powder in the .357, he loaded up some .223/5.56 rounds with it, and went to the range. Welll....the first shot bulged the upper and spit the magazine out the bottom, scattering its contents. Luckily no one was hurt. At the time the rangemaster thought that he had picked up all of the reloads, but evidently one escaped his attention, and some time later, a fellow with a brand new Remington Varmint special, chambered in .223 picked up that shiny looking round, and without much thought chambered and fired it. For his trouble, he learned that Remington's "three rings of steel" work, and it cost him the rifle to find that out. It was ruined.

I saw one of closest friends take a pre ban daewoo and start shooting pickups and about the 3rd or 4th shot, something struck me in the side of my head.It turned out to be bolt pieces. He ruined the bolt and broke the bolt carrier.I couldnt believe he shot pick ups in any gun muchless a new daewoo carbine. Now it collects dust in a corner of his barn/house.I was not injured but he had blood droplets all over his face like a bad day of shaving. I pick up rounds and take them down for the brass, but shoot them,no freaking way.

What is the plan for getting the mushroomed rod back out of the bore? Later! Frank

A steel rod won't mushroom on brass. It just gets beat up a bit so jags and brushes won't thread in.
