Rl26 in .243

Anyone using RL26 in a 243 hunting rifle with 90-105 gr stuff with success? Are you seeing real velocity gains over your go to .243 powders?

Tried it a while back with Sierra 95 grain matchkings, straight 243 Winchester. Worked up to 48 grains, (the Alliant max load for 100 grain bullets), Winchester brass, CCI BR-2 primers. At 48 grains, average for 5 shots was 3350fps, so, yeah, it's fast, but in my rifle, the 105 class bullets over H-1000 at around 3050 were a lot more accurate, so I didn't do any more testing.

Try a CCI 250 and a Fed 215 primer. 26 works best with 100+g weights. We got great accuracy for deer hunting with 100g Hornady BTSP at 3300 on a 24" barrel.

I think I remember reading about using mag primers in S/A sized cartridges with RL26 in the past, but can't remember the reasoning. Has it proven to give more velocity over say a 210m?

Yes. Tubb has tested it. Very high velocities. Mag primer. Temp sensitive.

I work up loads within a 20* temp range of where I will be shooting, and I have no problems.

Otherwise, old school technology, cold weather and hot weather loads will apply. -6 F* below zero loads will not apply to + 50 * temp loads.

When it is -6*, I am home with the baby's mom!

Tubb is very picky. He has a test that he uses for all powders and he can tell you how much it moves.

He loves that stuff. So, it must not be that bad!!

Speed, yes in part. I'd like to recover some after getting 2" of bbl cut off. But mostly because I have a lb here I have no plans for, so I thought I'd use it hoping for a quick repeatable sub moa hunting load. Hoping to use up some old 100 gr partitions and get them off my bench, but I may grab a few boxes of one of the 100gr Sierra's if the partitions won't shoot. I've never killed a deer with those.

Mag primers dropped the ES considerably on a couple RL26 loads.
Great velocity but temp sensitive over ~85F in my experience, very stable below that.

I used RL26 behing 100, 105gr bullets in my wifes 243.
Used Fed210M primers.
Speed & accuracy was above par.
Do it!
Just leave some for our 7mm Rem Mags!

I shoot 243AI so pretty close. In my experience with 105gr AMAX, Re22 could get me to 3280fps but pressure was high enough primer pockets loosened in a couple loads so I backed off to 3200fps and since then many reloads. Accuracy good at both loads.

Re26 gave me the 3280fps, same accuracy, with the pressure signs of Re22 at 3200fps. So it gave me an extra 80fps. Worth it? Your call. If I didn't have a pile of Re22/23 and less than a lb of unicorn Re26 I would make the switch.
