RL23 in 22 Creed or 22-250AI ???

I tried RL23 in my Criterion barreled Savage. I started out shooting H4350 in it with 75Amax in Lapua brass. It ran 39.8 grains at 3450fps as a 26” barrel when new and super accurate. After a few hundred rounds it slowed down to 3400. Recently cut it off to 22” to run a suppressor on it.

Wanted to see if I could get some speed back with RL23. I ran the same batch of 75 Amax starting at 38 grains and ran .4 increments up to 43.6 grains which was just about all that will fit in the case and probably real close to being too hot. Picked 43.2 grains at 3445fps shooting under 2” group at 500yds.

Just for grins I shot some leftovers that were running 3400 before cutting the barrel off. They now clocked at 3272 and still shot good.

I’ve already got a H4350 load for the 22 Creed or I’d being trying RL23 in it too. If it proves to be temp stable it should be something to try.

My 22 Creedmoor ended up with H-4350 with 80 gr. Nosler CC bullets. Shooting 3450 fps out of my 28" barrel. I could go higher but, it's shooting great now. Seeing as I have a tendency to keep tinkering I forced myself to leave it alone and start another build.

Never improve on perfection !!!

I settled on 41.5 of RL23 for 3370 fps with my Ackley with the 75gr ELD-M, and I struggle to shoot over MOA at any range. I no longer shoot at 100 yards for fun, it was boringly accurate, usually hovering around .3". Can't recommend that load enough.

I’m using h4831 in my 22-243 with 75g amax going about 3500. H4350, h4831sc, imr4451 Rl16, rl17, rl22, rl23, rl26 would all be good lots of powders to choose from.

Have been shooting a 22-250 AI for almost 25 years. It’s a mean cartridge but if the option were available at the time, I’d have gone with the Creedmoor (my God, did I actually say that?!). Ballistics between the two chamberings are almost identical but the ‘Moor wins because I’m over the whole fireforming thing.

I’m right there with you! I have built my final 22-250 AI.

Just got back from the range today. Shot some RL23 in my 22-250 AI with 80 Amax loads. Wound up with 41.0 grains for 3500 fps in a 30" barrel. My velocities aren't exact as I used my drop data to assume that number. Didn't take the chrono out today. So shot out to 500 yards for 2" groups. Not too shabby but so much mirage that it was soupy down range. I'll try it again on a cooler cloudy day. 100 yard groups were one ragged hole. 40.3 grains seemed to be more accurate at 100 but I think I was the flyer factor not the load.
