Rimx or Bergara question

Looking at buying a repeater action. I know the bergara gets a lot of flack for being rough and clunky. And a lot of guys don’t like that you can’t single feed the rimx. But is the rimx that much better for the money. Main question is one any more accurate then the other. Anyone that has used a bergara to build with. Did you have the action tried or blueprinted. Thanks

It totally depends on what you are going to do with it. If you are going to the benchrest nationals, the rimx wins. Local sporter class matches and squirrel hunting everything else wins. You are really asking for a comparison of apples and oranges.

Looking at shooting some small club benchrest matches. And maybe little longer range steel shooting

The RimX would be more accurate, but is not that much more for 3 times the cost. The Bergara B14R can be shot in some factory classes as is. Will you be doing the gunsmithing?

If you are replacing the barrel ( a good smith doing the work) you can get very close OR equal to RimX or Vudoo accuracy with a Bergara. Actually it can be done with a CZ 457 and the right smith installing the right barrel.

It's the barrel and the bullet.

Right that kinda what I figured. The gunsmiths I have talk to said should be just as accurate

I agree 100 percent with Merlin! Couldn’t have been said any better

If you're going to re-barrel the Bergara, accuracy will be a coin toss between the two depending on individual barrel quality.
I have both - Rim X with Benchmark & Kreiger barrels. Bergara with Kreiger.
The Rim X action is smoother but I have no complaints with the B14R action. Both are ultra reliable when set up properly.

thanks great to know. What stock is that one on the bergara ??

Just put my Tikka T3 into one of the MDT Charcoal.
I had a donor 22-250 that got turned into a .338 Federal and the original wood stock was not large enough for the new barrel that was 1.25" at the action tapering with a Sendero profile to 22".
Just for 300mt and under piggies & bush bound deer.
Did you have to modify the bedding or is the B14R a Rem clone action or a Tikka for that matter?
That is the only two types actions that they list for the inlet of the stock.

The B14R is a Remington 700 short action clone and is a "drop in" with the MDT stock. The Bergara AICS pattern 22LR mags also feed perfectly (for me) in this stock - Something to consider when choosing a stock for any of these 700 foot print rim fires as mag height/angle is critical.
I did make a set action screws for this set up so that I had maximum thread engagement without bottoming out on the barrel tenon.

I built a rifle on a RimX action a couple years ago and am very pleased. The quality of the action is amazing and it functions perfectly. One thing that is an issue - you can not "single-feed" it, because the extractor is fixed ("controlled-feed"). I have a .900 Shilen "Ratchet" barrel on it, Jewell trigger, KRG chassis, Sightron 45X45 SIII ED and it will shoot cleans on a 1" 10-ring at 100 yds all day long if you do your part. The other issue is the price. The action alone will cost you 50% more than the entire Bergara rifle and then there is the cost of magazines for the RimX - $125/ea., but they are works of art!
