is Todd the one that has that one now?Well I owned Merlin Spec 4 for a while, shot it some, and sold it to a friend. It was nothing special. My friend did win some with it after it was rebarreled.
If you continue with RF you will find that RFBR is a very small part of RF competition. Yes, Calpee is a legend in his own mind. Yes he had success early on. If I wanted a spec rifle I would buy one of Jerry Stillers. I think Calpee is allowing a trainee to do spec rifles now.Well I'm rather new to small bore benchrest and I've heard about some of the battles in the forums and I'm not about to be part of it, but Mr. Calfee helped me out when I asked, all his information was correct, and I couldn't find any flaws in his information for his rifles.
G.
I understand not just anyone could buy a Calfee spec rifle either? I read that you had to have won a certain amount of championships and have the credentials of a champion shooter. He doesn't want his guns in the hands of beginners or no champions . of them initially simply went to high bidders.
While most guns I own were built by Gordon Eck, I have a Penrod rifle…..as good as anything I ever shot.Mark Penrod is building me a pea shooter. Don't know how long it will take and I won't bother him. He has all the parts and Randy Owens will ship the stock to him. A few good RF smiths are out there, but I find it hard to see anybody better than Mr Penrod.
John is a very good and a very honest and personable guy.. I've done couple things with John and he built a great rifle for a friend.I’m new to custom rifles, so there’s that, but I’ve been paying attention for the last couple of years to who is winning and with what. There are a handful of smiths who are really good and a few self built guys too. I don’t think any one of them stand head and shoulders above the rest. They work with what their given in most cases. I recently had two builds by Langley. I don’t think anyone could have done any better with the parts I dropped off to him. He had a gun in the top 10 of this past indoor ARA UL nationals and one of his rifles is tied with another for the UL record target.
Dusty, That would be enough to scratch him off my list. How about ivan wells? Hes well respected and must be very busy. He never even answered my inquiry about having one built.

Yesis Todd the one that has that one now?
How much does a calfee spec rifle go for these days? …. If you can find a guy that would sell that is.
Have a turbo built
I already have one of thoseFWIW, unless you score a slot with a top guy that knows what’s required for a Turbo, as supplied by D’iorio, I would give serious consideration towards a 2500. Usually, tinkering with FP spring is about all that is needed. IMHO for a new RFBR guy, nothing runs better right out of the box.
