Looking at building a custom 22lr. Going to shoot 50 yrd benchrest. This is new to me. What would be best action and barrel to use?

Are you going to do the build? if so Turbo V3, Stiller 2500X or Trident. Benchmark 3G barrel or if you will have someone build it for you let them decide as they would be best to know what works, same for the barrel.

Wait for the Vudoo. A good idea especially since there will be dozens of used rifles and actions on the market at a fraction of the cost you might pay now.

All my rifles are Turbo's. One was bought due to pedigree, one I traded a Cooper TRP-3 for & rebarreled, & the new V1 because at the time it was the only left bolt option out there. It is also the cheapest at $900& I wanted a new rifle.
The cheapest route may not actually be if you can't do the work yourself. Having to send it to a gunsmith negates any savings whatsoever.
The V1 I recieved was not ready to go out of the box & did need a little tweaking. The firing pin was not on its stop so I addressed that by taking a few thousanths off the bolt handle/cocking piece face.
The firing pin was hitting to high on the case so it needed reshaping. Not difficult.
I've replaced the fp spring with a Wilkinson spring too. Well, actually Tom did it for me but replaced nonetheless. I was getting ftf once in a while.
The extractor clip also needed a little tweaking as it was not allowing the extractors over the case. Another very easy fix as all that was needed was adjustment with some needle nose pliers. Anthony walked me thru it.
Its said the Stillers actions need nothing. I don't know, I've never owned one & don't ever recall hearing anyone say they did. Now what fun is that??:D
Bottom line, of the 2 that are obtainable now, & I'm sure the new Vudoo, & all the countless others being 10X's, Halls, ULA's, 40x's,Suhl's, Anschutz 54's, etc can win on any given day if setup properly, but as John said you're gonna need a good barrel & ammo 1st & foremost. The action can't overcome mediocre other equipment.

Thanks for the information, have decided to go with the Turbo v3 action and Lilja 4 grove tight bore barrel. Zack Donovant of Old Dominion Custom rifles will be doing the gunsmithing. Thanks to all for you information.

Good choice on the action, a friend shoots one and I got to look it over before it went to the smith.
but as a few have said the barrel and who/how it is chambered will be the deciding factor.
I myself would have gone with a Benchmark 3-G, but that's me.
good luck on the build and report back when you shoot it

About five years ago, Lester Bruno built a .22 for me on a Stiller Copperhead action with a Krieger barrel and stuck into a Shehan stock. Krieger barrels are not the most popular for rimfires but I decided to try one on this rifle as the tube was choked and I have had good results with Kriegers in the past. I'd do it the same if I built another, though Stiller sold off part of his company or something and I guess he has a different action now. Now my last range near me is up for sale and may close and I'll probably be posting all my match rifles as too far to drive to next closest range. I'll drive for varmints though:D

Rimfire chambers are not hard to do, but they are extremely easy to do wrong. Knowing where to chamber and crown, knowing how far to advance the reamer. Knowing how to polish the chamber and with what. these are just a few of the key procedures that must be done correctly I enjoy building rimfire rifles here in my shop. I prefer the stiller 2500x for benchrest builds. i am excited to try the vudoo single shot action though. i understand they are in production i just hope that doesn't mean 6 months out?
