Rifling Options

What are the expectations for accuracy and barrel life from barrels with polygonal rifling versus ratchet rifling versus conventional rifling?

Thanks,

Cort

Huh..."ratchet rifling" ... never heard of that one, so I looked it up. Looks interesting!

I thought I read that David Tubb was singing the praises of the accuracy of polygonal rifling not long ago.

Holy carp. Never seen a bore like that!!! Most ratchet rifling discussed here will be a 3, 4, or 5 groove with canted lands instead of conventional parallel or square lands.

Have no experience with ratchet-rifling, but have experience with 2 AR's with polygonal rifling. One of the poly barrels shot extremely well, the other was rather ho-hum. Both barrels were made by Black Hole Weaponry. How that style of rifling will bear out over the course of dozens of barrels, it is anyone's guess.

Its called ratchet by shilen,5r by kreiger and remington and others,it is really canted land rifling. It is supposed to have less drag and cleans easier and is fairly popular with alot of shooters.I have a shilen and it broke in in 3 shots and cleans really easy for me.Polygonal rifling is way different and glock made it popular along with H&K and other companys in europe and now here.

That picture above is not 5R rifling.
