Rifles Stolen in South Ga

jp

Silver $$ Contributor
Guys, If any of you live in or Near Savannah Ga., I am missing quite a few rifles. Some one slipped in while i was out and got my collection or various bench rifle and ft/r rifles. The sheriff said the list would be about $20,000. and they even stole my bows. will put a list of serial #s that I find and pics when I get home today. I know it's someone I know, dam I know to many people...

thx for any assistance Joe Pittman Guyton,Ga., 31312

Sorry to hear about the loss.

If you have time, go to all the local and surrounding area pawn and gun shops and give them a list of what your missing. This have proven to be effective in the past. Most times the Police and Sheriff don't and will not help at such a level to make a quick recovery possible. They are too overwhelmed.

As people are getting desperate from this economy,I expect this will get worse. My heart is with you brother for your loss.I hate these idiots taking anything they fancy.

So I do not forget any one thanks to all of you for your comments. I am building a list of pics and serial#s to take around to all the local and not to local places and have made quite a few calls to freinds that run shops in 3 counties.. I guess it bad to say, but dam I hope they shoot their selves with one of them and put a stop to it permanantly... I sure am going to miss going to benchrest matches and ft/r matches for quite some time...

thx Joe

Ill get on the lookout here when you get your list together i am located near Columbus,Ga

Get a list I'll be on lookout near valdosta. People got nerve . Yea don't give up a top benchrest shooter got his back . They went to a match they were shooting and tried to sell them back to them.haha

When you get the serial no.'s together I'll work the Athens, Ga. area for you. I know it would kill me if same happened to me. Maybe we'll have some volunteers for Columbia & Charleston areas HINT, HINT.

Jp,

I am so sorry. If there is anything I can do from out on the west coast, let me know.

Get us as many pictures and S/N's as you can. Bad guys don't hang on to competition rifles.

Re: Rifles Stolen in South Ga

Real sorry to read about your loss, Joe. >:(
FWIW, I have found that if there are any unusual calibers it can help to alert the local gun shops to watch for anyone shopping for that type of ammo.
For those who may not have established a good relationship with their local shops, this is one very good reason to work on that.
Best of good fortune in recovering your losses, Joe.

Joe,
It can be frustrating. I contacted the Batfe and even gave them the guys name. I sent them all the info with pics. After 3 months they said why don't you sue him. Then they said to see if local law enforcement will handle it. It leads me to believe they are more interested in hassling the gunsmiths about their paperwork. The Dodge City PD arrested the guy and I just received my custom rifle. It is a frigging mess.
I hope you have better luck than I.

The fox always hangs out closest to the hen house. The ones that took your property aren't interested in shooting sports. They are only interested in ususally one thing......money... and that's needed for the drugs. If you know someone who has been fighting or has been overcome by an addiction, especially meth or Coke , then comb the pawn shops and talk to their family members and give them a way out before they're caught. They only have one thing on their mind and its the buzz. It consumes them and when its gone it becomes the next buzz.....then the next connection and then the next buzz and then the next and then the next............they make mistakes because they can't wait or think things out. They will catch themselves.......Personally go to all possible places where money for property can be exchanged. Pictures and Serial numbers, need to be shared. Unfortunately, a lot of pawn shops don't give a sit about your loss. They only care about losing the money they spent when they basically stole your property that they gave $.10 on the $1.00 to someone else who did steal your guns. Good luck. If you know someone that works for the local police, maybe you can get them to persuade the department detectives to get off their dead ones, go out, and find your property....If they are found at a local pawn shop, someone had to show I.D. to sell them and that might lead to the guilty party. Normally they wont be sitting out where you can find them easily, they will be in a temporary hold in the back of the store......

I'm speaking from experience.....good luck...

Joe when you get us a list I'll keep an eye out around the Columbia, SC area. Hang in there and hopefully they will turn up.

Yep. You can bet you know them. I lost three hunting guns when someone I knew broke my door in back in the mid 70's. I got them back, but I would have been better off in the long run if I had had them insured and let them go. What I have now is much, much more than that and as much as I hated to shell out for a good safe, the cost of it was a lot less than losing all the guns would be. One of my friends told me about his friend's safe sitting on the porch just inside his door. They took the whole safe. The laugh was on them because there was nothing in it. My safe is bolted into the 2 x 10s in the floor it sits on with 6" lag bolts. They would have to rip half the side off the house to get it out.

Good luck.
