Rifles Stolen in South Ga

I had the same kind of mess this summer.
On Augest 10 some dipchit smashed my basement door in and got my bench guns.
It was all about drugs.
Dipchit sold my rifles worth 20000 to a local estate buyer for 650.
All high end stuff.
I was lucky and got my rifle back about 4 weeks later.
Dipchit is now in jail.

Get pictures and serial numbers out.
Check local pawn shops and "estate buyers"
Call the manufacturers of your actions and give them the serial numbers.
Scopes too.
You should have gotten a police incident number.
Call them and ask for the investigating detective on your case.
Bug them once and awhile.
If you dont get anywhere call the BATF.
The BATF loves to "motivate" local popos.

Your stuff is high end.
They dont really know what to do with it.
My bet is that it has not gotten that far away yet and thats a good thing.

Buy a safe.
Good luck.

Dave,
You are wrong in my case. The BATFE in KC told me to sue the thief or use the local police. Fortunately the local police arrested the guy and recovered my rifle and other stolen items.

Just a idea for folks, I have three cameras set up. One is at the front door and side then the back door..I did the installation my self and cost wasn't that much, I know that isn't gonna stop them from getting what they want but it may speed up recovery time..Probably wouldn't hurt for insurance purposes and to prevent the local PD from assuming there first hunch!

Thx Guys, I spoke to a Guy yesterday about a satelite came and DVR system, that's the way, I am go in now. So I can watch what going on on my cell.

So far I've been having alot of interaction with the detective and locals, 2 witness's that can identify the car and possibly the driver. waiting on that to develope. (pictures)

thx Joe

Gosh Joe, I feel so sorry for you. I can just imagine what you are going through, and how you may feel. It's a terrible violation having folks steal from you that which you spent so much time and expense perfecting. I personally have spent a good part of my life picking, choosing, building, and collecting my toys. When I have a bad day at work, or maybe some stresses in my personal life that might get me down, often I can turn to my toys and my latest gun project in the works to help me forget those minor thorns in my side. I'm sure this sport brings this same kind of satisfaction to many of us. I don't even want to think of the scenario of some scuzzball breaking into my place and walking out with everything that I've diligently collected through the years!

Keep after it! I'm glad you seem to have some leads, and you are making every effort possible to get these guns back. I feel like you will get most if not all of them back.

Any chance you are an NRA member? Doesn't membership come with insurance? At least you have some leads to go of! My aunt was just robbed and the detective told her he has never seen them catch someone in his 25 years...

Yes to being an NRA member, I never activated the insurance.. Dum,Daa,Dum,Dum....

thx

Finally I found a serial# for the 243 rem 700 that was stolen. C6528528.

thx again Guys

How many times have we heard this story on other forums? Local druggies know where they can get weapons and wait for the opportunity and bust in and clean house. Guys, If you've got a ton of $$ invested in weapons, coins, stamps or whatever, consider getting a safe or an alarm system. I have both and never leave my home unoccupied without everything locked up and alarm set. My neighbors on either side also have alarm systems. Two doors up, no alarm. Guess who was burglarized recently? Even a stand-alone unmonitored system is better than nothing. To JP, good luck. I hope you get all your items back. Hog

I had someone break into my basement not long ago. Firearms were safe in the vault I had built when the house was constructed. I have a monitored alarm system, but the perp(s) are gone before anyone can get there.

I invested $200 in a CCTV system with 4 cameras. The hard drive will store 2 weeks of video. Of course you have to have the DVR secured so that it cannot be stolen.

Of all possessions, my guns are the only thing I would really cry about being stolen. They just can't be replaced with an equivalent.

Joe

I see you tracking down your SN#'s for your rifles. During my Last Deployment I took every last fire arm out of the safe and took pictures of the Rifle and then the Serial Number. Put it on a spread sheet and attached a picture. Quit Frankly I need to go back and update my spread sheet to include some recent purchases but the point is.... Make this easy for everyone involved. If something happened to me it makes it easier for my Family to track and record my most prized possesions. Plus I get to open that file every now and then to admire them when Im on the road.

Fellas.. A simple cost effective camera system is as far away as your local Cabalas, Gandermountain, Basspro shop or Internet...Amazon ( linked through this site so they get a few dollers to keep the site going)
A TRAIL CAM hidden in a corner. You get pictures or Movies of the scumbags in your corner of the world.... the man cave. Its stupid simple and some of the new ones you can monitor from the internet. I have two. One in the main room and one in the walk in safe where Im the only one who has access too. If you didnt know they where there you would never see them. Its a pain to get access to the SD cards but that is the point. I call it back up insurance.... Just in case.
A picture of the Perp would go a long way in helping the Po po. Maybe a you see them put there hand on something so they can lift a finger print.. Maybe.

Joe those are some unique rifles. so It will be alot easier to recover than a typical Remington 700 or Wetherby hunting rifle. Cant mistake a bright yellow Laminated stocked rifle for a Marlin 22lr.

Rtheurer, you are right about that. I am looking at having a satellite system installed. With a dvr that should fix the problem of future breakins and not know who?

thx again Joe

If I'm not mistaken pawn shops and even gun dealers ( I know here in Az. ) have to call in serial #s to the local police depts to make sure they aren't stolen.
I would when you talk to the pawn shops tell them to buy the guns and you will pay them back and then some to get them recovered. just a though. I wish you all the luck getting them back.
I have been there, a friend of my G/F's son stole a couple of my pistols to sell them for $$ for drugs. I was lucky that the person he sold them to turned them in and I got them back.

Areaman is your system wireless?

No, I had to run cables. If they cut the wires or wreck the cams, I'll already have their mugs recorded.

I can monitor the cams through the internet. Supposed to be able to do it from by phone, but have been unable to get that to work.

I haven't seen much interesting on mine yet except watching the dog get all friendly with the FedEx man.

One of the issues of the video camera systems is that real thieves know to find the recorder and steal it too. I have heard of guys hiding it in attics or basements. I would simply put it in the gun safe. Even better is if it was able to record to an outside source. I am sorry for your loss and i hope these guys get what they deserve.

I sure hate to hear about your loss, Joe, I went thru one many years ago.......I had ordered my 1st gun safe and delivery was pending when I got hit, talk about timing. No trace of mine was ever found and I used to call the local police and check serial numbers every year - finally just let it go. NRA and homeowners made me whole again, but I would never want to go thru it again. I hope you find your guns!

With all this Cloud stuff running on the internet these days, shouldn't there be some way for a camera system to record directly to one of your cloud folders since there's usually a PC at the heart of these systems? I've just started looking for a system. Want something that's wireless, with high resolution (makes no sense if the pics are not useful!), easy to operate with cloud connectivity.

Good luck, Joe, keep pushing, I hope you find them!

Ok. The pawn shop scenario. The person who either pawned or sold is still the 'rightful' owner unless a Police Department arrives and claims stolen property. The call is supposed to be made before the purchase so the pawnshop doesn't get left holding the stick. And yes, most Police Departments have a "pawn' detail who checks these on a regular basis. So, if the gun shows up at a pawn shop, you should NOT have to buy your property back. Just have the Police Department(s) get together and retrieve the guns. Sorry to the pawn shop owner for buying a stolen gun without checking first. Hope you get these back for sure. Stay on top of the local Police. Don't be a nuisance, but be a presence.

All my friends who have cameras have the video streamed straight to an account online. So even if everything gets stolen they will still have the video. They also have motion detectors that will buzz there phone. Lots of interesting stuff out how.
