Rifleman TV series Nostalgia

All in the Family was hardly PC. I doubt a show like that would be produced today without a big uproar from some quarters.
Talk about P.C.!! When I was 6 years old, for Christmas, I got a "double" (not one but 2 with the appropriate "each side" holsters) Mattel "Fanner 50" pistols with spring loaded gray "bullets"! It also had the ability to shoot "Greenie Stick'em Caps" on those "cases"! You could hold the trigger back and "fan" the hammer and shoot it very fast! Can you imagine selling those today! I would love it if they did!

"They were some good shots in those days, able to hit a moving target while on another moving target, horse rider to horse rider."

Not to mention being able to shoot the gun out of the bad guys had every time.

Real world time check, Do you remember the incident a number of years ago when an armed individual was sitting in a chair in a highway intersection and a police sniper did shoot the gun out of the guys hand when it became pretty obvious the person was not going to be talked into giving up the firearm?

Probably using a prototype Creedmoor.

Iw was a ~75 yard shot from a positioned sniper...

I think Jim Pag got it right. There was a big article in the American Rifleman a few years back. I think they said it had a screw added to the lever, and when it was extended it tripped the trigger with each pull of the lever.

I read that the screw was to keep Lucas McCain from wounding his finger like Milo did and causing filming problems.

Have Gun Will Travel
A well read gunfighter and some interesting twists.

There ya go... Richard Boone, one of my favorite actors from that era. His show Hec Ramsey was an early indicator of where 'crime dramas' would soon be heading. Always wondered if his gruff screen voice had anything to do with his death from throat cancer in 1981.

"The Rifleman", and many others were great, but my favorite -- and I mean All Time Favorite -- is "Gunsmoke".

For over-all quality of the stories, the message, and the reality of the sets, it can't be beat. The character of Matt Dillon is incredible, but he is surrounded by a half dozen others who often carry the show.

And unlike most of the other westerns happiness doesn't always win the day; more like real life.

I'm about to watch an episode right now. jd

Lots of good ole westerns, many of which did teach values - good ones at that. Of course some were just fun to watch.

Fast forward to a relatively modern "western" that my son and I liked: Walker, Texas Ranger. There was one recurring theme in this show: Life is a series of choices, either good or bad. You make your own.
