Rifle Smith recommendations

I want to have a new varmint rifle built and needed some help on who would be recommended.I have decided on the .223 cartridge. It seems to be the best for shooting out to 300yrds and wanted to stay with a .22 cal. I have a 22-250 for longer range shooting. I am sure there are a lot of opinions but would welcome them all. Thank you.

Give Scott Soik a call 715-343-9711.He has built all of mine and I find he is very good and very resonable on price.

Dan, for the shooting your wanting to do, I would highly recommend the 6BR with a 1-8 twist barrel. The 6BR with a 1-8 twist barrel will allow you to shoot bullets from 60 to 105grns. This set up would be perfect for your needs. The 6BR will shoot a 70grn bullet, with a 28" barrel, at 3400fps. I just had a 6BR built and it's the most amazing cartridge I have ever owned. It will run circles all over the .22 cals. I made 2 800+yard kills and numerous 600 and 500 yard kills on ground squirrels with my 6BR over the weekend. I should have built a 6BR years ago. Trust me, you will be so happy you had one built.

Regarding your gunsmith question, I would highly recommend Richard Franklin of Richards Custom Rifles or Chris Matthews of Long Shot Rifles. They are both awesome smiths. I have had rifles built by both. Chris built my new custom 6BR and it's a tack driver. It's shooting in the .1's with ease.

What kind of action? There are several excellent,BR quality) gunsmiths that will only work on Rem700,or equivalent) and customs. Any of these pros are as closes as your UPS store and you want be disappointed in their craftsmanship.

Here is a good list to start from: Top Gunsmith. Highly recommend Dave Tooley and Mike Byrant. Be prepared to wait a while, but it will certainly be worth the way.

223 is a fine round for out to 300 yds and offers a good selection of ammo and cheap brass if you reload.
