Here is what I have to have...

Reticle must match turrets (mils-mils)
200% reliability tracking
Mildot reticle type
50mm or larger objective
FIRST FOCAL PLANE
5X-30X range magnification
QUALITY GLASS
QUALITY Erector assembly
RUGGED
APOCHROMATIC Glass
30mm or larger Tube
Lots of elevation adjustment
Zero stop feature nice, not a must
15 min per turn turrets or more per turret turn
Best glass for least amount of optical vignetting

Will be used for long range hunting and target, 2000 meters max
.338 Lapua custom rifle

My research comes down to telling me Nightforce B.E.A.S.T, US Optics LR or ER, Zeiss Victory's, Schmidt and Bender PM 2's, Valdada- but only have 70 MOA elevation adjustments... or Vortex Razor MRAD-but the Vortex does not offer a reticle with full elevation in mils.

Sightrons are all second focal plane, zeiss conquest are all second focal plane, and most others I found were too...

I do not own one, but from my experiences and research it seems like the S&B 5-25X56 PM2's fit the ticket the most, though I can not rule out US Optics yet...

Any Guru's that know their stuff here? Opinions? Any others I need to look at?

If price is no option get the S&B, while I can afford one I went with a Razor, with my 260Rem shooting 142smk at 2790 I have made hits at 1780yards, 24.8 Mils, the Razor does everything I need scope to do, and cost almost half what a S&B cost, at super long distances the environmental conditions are more important than glass used to try and see thru them.

If that is your list of requirements go with the S&B as it is a proven unit with outstanding optics, optics that are very hard to beat. Premier Reticles is also a line you may want to look at, comparable optics to S&B with some nice reticle and turret options.

Take a look at Premier Reticles' Heritage 5-25x56. A good friend's got a Premier 3-15x56, and I'm very impressed with it. Personally, I wouldn't spend that much $$$ and be limited to 15x, so the 5-25x56 - even though it's several hundred dollars higher, would be my choice.

Haven't seen one of NF's new Beast models, but they're probably right up there with S&B & Premier's offerings.

Also would like to have the opportunity to check out Vortex's Razor HD. I've got a couple of their Viper PST 6-24x50s, and while the optical quality of those two don't quite match up to that of several Sightron SIIIs (6-24x50 & 8-32x56) in low light or seeing into the shadows, their clicks & reticles are right on the money out to 1400yds.

IOR Valdada makes some pretty nice tactical milling scopes that may fit the bill too. Huge 34 and 40mm tubes for plenty of adjustment.

They make a 4-28x56 with a-40mm tube that has 85 moa of adjustment. Plus there's like 25 moa of adjustment per revolution on the knobs so you shouldn't have to go beyond 1 rev to get to 1k with high bc bullets in a fast round.

Have you looked at the drop and windage charts at 2000m? You're going to shoot a deer or hog from at that range from the flying bridge or from a deer blind?

Where I can get the US optics for $2800 and S&B for $3000.
You will be lucky to find either scope at those prices in the "used scope" market. Both of your choices tend to hold their value very well.

Ryanjay - there is nothing unethical about it. you need to consider where you are at and where I am at. Where I am at killing 400 hogs a year and letting them lay is not unethical. It's management. If you don't agree, thats not my problem. I haven't done it, but I can go out and in one night kill 200 hogs sometimes if I wanted. Yes I could give meat away, and yes sometimes I do, but I'll give you 200 hogs and you try to give it all away.

Friend, when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. Boasting about slaughtering animals and then wasting them isn't going to score you many points among a bigger circle of folks, nor make you seem enlightened in any way. And if you're such a bad@$$, then why are you troubling the forum asking for scope advice. Seems like you have the hookup and the situation already dialed in. ::)

There's a lot to be said for humility. Humble Pie isn't just an old musical group. Get you a slice, and then head over to LongRangeHunting.com. Amongst their very tedious website formatting, you'll likely find some like-minded people, when it comes to long range hunting. Which shouldn't be confused with the slaughter you're touting.

Perception is a powerful thing. The pro-gun, pro-shooting sports, pro-hunting, pro-2nd Amendment faction doesn't need the perception brought on by your antics. So, I recommend you consider stealth mode. Don't need to shove your exploits in others' faces. That's not doing the bigger cause any good at all.

There are hundreds of thousands of homeless and hungry people in Texas. Give the meat to the less fortunate rather than let it lay and rot >:( :(

Sounds like you need to read John Palmer's Book...

Mils-Mils is going to be very very tough on a variable zoom scope. As for the rest, you sound like you want the best of the best, so look to what is military tested.

Leupold Mark 4 will do, but only use the Mil dots at 10x power! If you want more power, you'll be on your own to find a good scope. People have had good and bad experience with every major manufacturer. Don't worry about scopes that have problems, instead worry about warranty and repair procedures.

I have to say I agree.

Varmint hunting has never been about meat. I agree it's about management and has to be done. Like shooting a dog town and killing a lot of pups to keep it from getting so big that they poison the darn thing and kill all the dogs.... which is simply awful.

Besides... leaving them lay brings out the yotes, wolves, cats, etc...

We used to do the same thing with groundhogs. We killed them because they were digging under the fields (even seen a tractor fall into a groundhog den?), even into people's houses in the fall. We had to get them while the weather was good... All the smart locals knew that and let us kill all we wanted..
