Rifle market pretty flat

I remember a time when I could look at the classifieds here or Lrh and see several quality rifles at fair prices and if it was a good deal you couldn’t buy it fast enough. I’ve boughtbought and sold several rifles and parts off these forums. Is the dichotomy of the economy people have money to buy but people with nice rifles don’t want to sell. I’m not talking about full custom for 4 grand those are available I’m talking about the 1000 and below rem 700 and savages. I used to see them in plentifull numbers and were bought and sold without issue. Where did this market go

They grew into tactical rifles and are now $2500 and up. Lol!

It could have something to do with decent quality entry-level rifles entering the market. Ruger American and Weatherby Vanguard both boast MOA groups out of the box. Someone looking to buy a rifle might be weighing the cost of a used rifle (taking a risk whether it has been well-cared for), or a brand new hole puncher with a warranty. If the market seems to be leaning toward new instead of used, it would drive down the value of used rifles. No one wants to sell their rifle for less than it's worth.

A few months ago, I went to a LGS to see what I could get for my Tikka .223. Without even looking at it, he said the most he could offer for it was $150. Out the door I went. If that's all I can get, I'll hang on to that rifle forever.

And right now since Trump was elected there has been a Glut and prices you can get aren’t good so people aren’t trying to sell if they aren’t gonna get anything like Clunk says. This is better than the alternative when the dems are in power for shooters. That is coming soon enough so enjoy these times while you can.

I have noticed the same thing as others. I recently completely finished my last build and starting to get the, "itch" again. Went to a LGS today looking for a long action Savage for a possible new build. He## the prices on their used rifles were, (the ones I looked at) only $100-$175 less than new! I keep looking.

Creedmores, everyone started buying creed mores

Are you guys just making fun of my Tikka? After seeing how this thing shoots, you'll have to pry it from cold dead hands.

I’m still trying to figure out why you thought about selling it in the first place!
The guy did you a favor by insulting you. Gun stores won’t give you half of what a gun is worth. They have too much overhead and need to sell what they have in stock. It costs money to hold those guns in the racks.
To answer the OPs question. A lot of guys are using Gunbroker. Timing has a lot to do with it too. Wait until Hunting season is over.
By the way, There’s a nice Witchita actioned 6ppc for a good price on the sale board.;)

I just saw Hoz’s post. He’s right. The way I see the media maneuvering against the Right, we may have a real battle holding on to our guns in three years.:(

Tell us about your .223 Tikka. Many Tikka fans on this site. Maybe a reasonable buyer right here.:D:D

In Oregon the theory is that it’s the background check. My first gun I bought I sold to someone on armslist right away. Met in a parking lot and handed it over. Not sure why it is but this same question was posed on a local thread and that was the overwhelming response.

Could be, the creeping socialism in many states is causing store sales and the legal registration to flatten out.
I do NOT believe the BATFE ever destroys any purchase information.
IMHO, the next time a democrat is elected President and a majority of both houses occurs, we will begin full registration, and limitations of the number and type of firearms one my legally own.

A couple years ago, Idaho, under the guise of revenue enhancement; started requiring individuals selling firearms, or anything else at a public gathering, to collect sales tax. That is, in effect, a backdoor registration of everyone in the State who sells a firearm.
